What next after an R
So what does everyone think? I was just reading about the BMW 1 Series M which sounds good but will drop like a stone in value.

It all depends on your budget, but personally I like unique hot hatches and the best one out now would be the rs3 no questions asked

Yeh I wanted a Cayman S last year. My wife didn't like it but I did. I've got to run it for upto 12k miles a year but still an attractive option.
Re: What next after an R
u bored of the R already?
1 Series M Coupe would be a good change to have. Looks the biz. I'd go for it if i can afford it. But i need boot space for my Golf clubs which makes it a bit of no no really. haha.

I wouldn't go for TTRS, nice engine but a TT which im not overly joyous about.
I'd want an M3, or a V8 Vantage.

I'm not bored of it was just thinking at the weekend. I can get 35mpg out of it all day on the motorway to work and there aren't many of similar performance/ mpg available. Quite like a Cayman S but it would cost a lot to run.Chungster wrote:u bored of the R already?

Had also thought about the Vantage or M3 but again the cost of ownership particularly for 12k a year is very high.
Re: What next after an R
i think if you have to run one car as a daily driver the Roc R is a great compromise and allrounder and looks superb on the move
i tend to do 20k a year and in reality didn't fancy shoving that sort or mileage on a R not to mention the consumables side of things, given fuel prices in reality running a 260+ bhp car is ceasing to make common sense, however, i never see the point of spending £30k on a derv that gives you no enjoyment
my solution has been to order a 'sh#tty for the city' for daily commuting as in reality i rarely get the buzz from our cars too and from work as its just too busy (but loved the thrash in wales), the sh#tty pretty much covers its costs in savings on fuel and golf (which ticks the sensible family 5 door option)
this moves means the roc will drop down to around 7k miles a year and means other cars become attractive and i don't necessarily have to compromise, oddly this means i may well not bother with the R but look at a youngish TT-RS, Exige, M1 or M3 not too mention Pork

Hmmm....the 2.5 should fit in the Roc engine bay with no probs.
Or I might just BT the damn thing and become a Greek nutter!

Re: What next after an R
5 potter and 4 wheel drive in a R now that would be nice
Re: What next after an R
4WD would weigh it down and make it almost TT esque...mattyw wrote:5 potter and 4 wheel drive in a R now that would be nice
but a 450bhp FWD Roc R would be rather potent, along with an awesome sound track from the 5 potter.
Re: What next after an R
I'm sure a little more weight wouldn't hurt if it was running 450hp

The TTRS is probably the most mean looking car out of the tt range. It so isnt a hair dressers car.

Re: What next after an R
Chav has got out of hand in usage. It used to represent a working class teenager who's had a scatty upbringing, going nowhere in life and generally is on the wrong side of the law for anti-social behaviour. So I don't see how a "chav" could afford any car that may replace an R, never mind a standard car that may replace a standard Scirocco. So saying the RS3 etc is a chav car is a bit fkin strange.
To answer the above with my opinion. Go test driving the lot and see which you like. Make a short-list. Then play them off against each other to see what deal you can get.

Re: What next after an R
RS3 isn't chav i think the issue with the RS3 its a bit too clinical in the driving department (same issue with S3) so you never fully feel engaged, it will be awsome point to point, you'll respect it but never truley love it as a drivers car, will be rare as rocking horse given pigment supply issues for the paint given issues in japan
i'd gpfor the 4 door m3, rarer, ment to be a bit more balanced and discreet
M1 gets a good write up just woun't to see one in a decent colour rather than metalic rust

Simple for me!
1 Year old Nissan GTR, they drop above 20% in price during the first year of ownership!

Re: What next after an R
A lot of good value out there. TT-RS, E92 M3, Litchfield Impreza Spec C (new) are considerations in future for me.
GTRs are nice, but your still looking ~£50k.
Wouldnt bother with 4 door M3. Less desirable than coupe or convertible. Unless your a motorsport journalist or race driver, the mentioned slightly better balance isnt going to be noticeable. The coupe is such a fantastic car to drive anyway.
1M looks like it lacks the qualites inside of a normal M car, and an RS badge (RS3) seems to be a bit softer. Both will be nice, but seem like a compromise.
