Dealer inside informaion

Post by veeedubba »

Can anyone help please? I have left a deposit on another Roc which is unregistered and in the dealers showroom. Does anyone know if there is a penalty to the dealer if the dealer cant sell sell the car within a certain timescale as i feel he wants rid of the car quickly so i'd like to exploit this.

Cheers

Does this mean you want to pull out of the deal done already and then renegotiate the price based upon his desparation to get rid of it? You scoundrel, you!

Or do you want to pull out of a deal done already to chase a different car that is currently without buyer.

I don't think he'll have too much bother selling it, it's in a popular colour, isn't loaded with extras that people would be particularly averse to paying for, and you'll probably lose your deposit, whereas some lucky get won't have to wait 3-4 months for it.

i think you may have lost the tactical advantage when you placed a deposit, you come with cheeky further offer, dealer tells you no your back to original game plan, or you can walk away and lose the deposit which the dealer is within his rights to keep........ mmmmm tough one......

it was just a refundable deposit to take the car off the forecourt and i can take the car or leave it but the killer question is why the desperation he has to sell?

If the dealer feels he could shift it easily (and I think he could, given it's spec and colour) he'll just thank you for the deposit and send you on your way if you won't buy it on the original terms.

How good a deal was it in the first place? With no part ex, you should've been able to negotiate an 8% discount. Other percentage deals are dependent upon how generous the dealer has been with your part ex value. I got top glass' guide price for my part ex (£17k back after 2 years on a car that I paid £21k for - not bad) and an £1100 discount (4.4%) plus either free GAP or Lifeshine. Had I gone in with no part ex, I would've expected to haggle £2k off the list price.

If you already have a deal comparable to above then I doubt you'll get any more out of the dealer.

Salespeople have to sell, the question is, at what price? He's not so desparate that he'll give you the car - I wouldn't be expecting a £4K discount or anything daft like that, you can be cheeky and ask, but unless it's been sitting on his forcourt for months without a seller then they won't be as desparate as I imagine you think they are.

There's generally a 15-20% margin in a new car, depending upon volumes sold by the dealership. The dealership has running costs etc, they don't like losing more than 1/2 of their potential profit margin to discounts.

Very interesting, but what about the nearly new ones that are loaded with a few options? Looking at Glass'/Parkers guides they all seem over priced - much chance of a discount there?
