Bumper Scuffed

Hi,

Before leaving this morning noticed my bumper had been scuffed! No idea how this was done but was raging!

I really need some tips on what to do for repair, not sure about using smart repair. Its not much damage but it is annoying me very much now.

Plus its a leased car, was considering leaving it till the end of my lease but its going to bother me too much.

Any ideas, tips will be greatly appreciated.

Give it a good clean and see what the real damage is, and then go from there. Also try using a soft paint brush? Or touch up stick?

The large deep black mark and the two smaller dark marks look is if the original plastic has been exposed however the rest I'd expect will rub off.

Depending on your milage these may qualify as fair wear and tear at end of lease.

I have applied some t cut rather vigorously and looking much better!



However still rather noticeable. Not sure if I should maybe get it done by car body repair shop, get a detailer to have a look at it or get it smart repaired.

Any ideas guys, maybe other products that might help.

last time I looked there is not a detailer or a product that will magically repair paint apart from... a paint touch up stick.
personally i'd just touch it up with touch up stick (less than £5 from the dealers) for now then get any bits & pieces that will be considered more than fair wear & tear sorted professionally just prior to the end of the lease period otherwise you will end up spending out far far more than you need to over the whole period.

Any tips using the touch up paint i.e anything to use before or after it.

Look for those touch up kits that give you a primer and a top coat in a pack and a very fine brush. You'll need a coat or two of primer first and may well need to build up the paint in layers to match the original. Leave plenty of time for drying between each coat. You'll probably need to do a bit of rubbing down before applying the final layers - this means you need to have let the paint cure fully over several days.
However I suspect that at the end of the job despite your best efforts you will still be unhappy with the finished job. A full bumper respray is what you need really.

A full bumper respray?? That sounds drastic. I wouldn't want to be messing about with rubbing down as may cause the damage to be even more visible. I might get it done from a detailer they should have some experience and before returning the car back to the lease company get it done professionally. Not sure if this damage would be classed as wear and tear though.

That is the danger with to touching up yourself. It might look better than the black scrape you start with but your own critical eye will always be drawn to the less than invisible repair.
My father in law has a motability car and every time it went in for a service they would go over it with a fine tooth comb. Any minor scuffs or scratches would have to be dealt with.

Respraying bumper is drastic, I'd touch it up yourself. Just to simply hide it from lease company. Could get decent smart repair to rub it down a bit to smooth it over and touch it up if your not keen on doing it yourself.

I had the very same problem. I contacted the dealer where i bought the car and they put me in touch with the bodyshop they use for similar things. Had bumper resprayed and you cant see a thing now. The bodyshop was a VW authorised one and they took £145.

145 is not a bad price. If I was to touch it up myself just now and leave it to get done properly at the end of the lease, this shouldn't be a problem?

i.e rusting or any other issues that may make it worse.

To be honest you could probably just touch it up and not bother getting it sprayed. By the time the end of the lease comes the touch up should have blended in enough with sufficient polishing. That coupled with the location of it means it will probably not be noticed.

I had a similar scuff damage from a rock hitting my previous lease Golf's bumper and repaired it myself using the twin aerosol pack from the local dealer's
I just flatted down the damaged area using 800 grade wet and dry then masked off before applying the basecoat and then feathered the edges with 1500 Grade WnD before remasking an inch further out and repeating the process with the laquer and then flatted the whole area with 2000 WnD and drove around with it looking a bit messy for a month before mopping in with Farecla G3 and AutoGlym super resin until the repair was invisable,so invisable the dealer didnt spot it and i couldnt even find it and id done it!!!
If your not confident enough to spray buy the aerosols and spray into the caps and apply with an artists brush then sand and feather the edgesand compound after a month why pay £145 when you can do it yourself for between £15-£50 depending on what you allready have to complete the job at hand
Give it a go its not as bad as some may think
