INSURANCE FAIL

Post by kane1210 »

Had a massive fail this week , took delivery last week of my beauty . Got the roc with the premise of loads of points coming off my licence allowing me to insure it at a resonance price . Unfortunelty I got the dates wrong on my licence they count from date of conviction not date of offence !!!!! :( anyway I have a 11 plate roc that I can't insure or drive for 6 weeks lol FAIL!! I'm getting quotes of between 5 and 7 grand ATM or in 6 weeks 1000!!!!

Oh dear. That is a complete FAIL!! So where is your car at the mo then? Still at the dealer as they shouldn't have let u take it away with no insurance / no road tax...so how did u take delivery in that case??

You do get temporary cover from the dealer allowing you to take delivery (they also use this to tax the car), but i believe that is only valid for a week or 2 at most ?! If you explain to the dealer they may depending on their forecourt size keep the Roc for you, my dealer kept mine for 2 weeks for me while i was away before i collected it ?! Just be extra nice :)

Didn't think all dealers provided that free insurance...mine requested I had policy in place and temp cover note issued and faxed direct to dealer to sort the Road Tax. But the Mazda dealer gave my folks 7 days free cover when buying the zoom zoom.

Irrespective of that, what's the point of driving it away on a weeks insurance only to be un-insured for 5 weeks and it gets nicked or broken into and things taken. Surely it would be better to leave it in the dealer's secure compound and hope they don't want to charge storage. Although storage may cost, it will be a lot less than your premuim at the moment!

C.
Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory
23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,
29 Oct'09 at dealers
Driving 4th Nov. Sorted!

Did u not get some quotes before ordering the car to check what kind of premium you'd be paying? Or even if you'd get offered insurance???

Have you tried getting a quote from the club insurers to see if they have the same issues?

Highly doubtful you'll find anything cheaper than 2k (at least), even with one year no claims! Let me know what quotes you get stig...

I wonder how much 17/18 year olds can get their insurance to drop buy if they take and pass the advanced course?

the way car insurance is going generally and especially for young males, i would say not as much as you would think

insurance companies are a law upon themselves

Ive done mine and im 18 noticed a reasonable drop but not enough to go and party over, about £200-300 so its worth doing for the experience plus the financial side. Quote wise on a rocco in an A rated post code, Kept in a Locked Garage, 1 previous accident not my fault with pass plus and advanced motoring course passed been getting quotes of 5k (In my own name on my own policy with my mum added and best friend as named drivers.) Aside my mum and best mate was looking at £5700.

Barclays, Lloyds, Fortis and a couple of other specialist insurers seem to be the most competitive along with some company galled igo irrc 8)

Just done my renewal on my Roc. Last year paid around the £800ish mark. this year renewal cam back at £1700! Was really peed off with that! Shopped around and Volkswagen Insurance came out the cheapest at £750ish. Now thats a 24 year old with 5NCB protected in London. Looks like I own't be chipping my Roc this year!
