Panel filter in an R

Ladies/Gents,

I have just sold my GT TDi and purchased an R . . . which I am loving!

I've purchased an aftermarket panel filter . . . . but I have no idea how to take the engine cover off?!?!

Has anyone got any tutorials or guidance because I am puzzled!

the difference is merely branding, one tip is to warm the car slightly (only a few mins) to warm up the plastic, easy to break the lugs and these are ludicrous money from VW

This is how my engine bay looks.

But you can see the front 2 lugs are in identical positions and even tho my pics don't show the back 2 I'm sure it's there as the engine blocks are the same type.

But I will say Forge removed mine for me and I've never had the pleasure to remove one myself I prefer to let the experts work on my cars and I just watch from the sidelines

Different engine block trixy I didn't look at my cover before putting it in the shed but I reckon it's identical to the Mk5 so those 2 links I provided should be correct.

just covering all possible configurations, as wigit says the lugs are expensive for what they are so if it doesn't release 1 way here is another to try just in case, rather than over forcing one and breaking it

Here you go this is what i used for another TFSI engine with the same type of cover. The filter is then removed by extracting numerous cross head screws.

Best thing to do is just forget fitting the panel filter.

Its one of the biggest myths around that you get any benefit from a panel filter.

Just replace the paper filter more often if you're that worried about air flow.

I could swear I can hear more induction noise after fitting one than b4, my advice is go to awesome GTI and buy one, then talk Al into fitting it for you
But yes I didnt do it thinking I was going to gain any HP

It's all in the mind innit...if you've paid for it...you just "know" there must be an increase in noise and more bhp etc etc...

but I'm with Andy-GTI regarding Panel Filters. Never rated them...never will. The OE cotton filter does an ok job with the OE enclosed housing.

I thought that there cant be much of a difference. Had one fitted anyway just to see. Slight bit more noise if you give it some in a multi-story or tunnel I think. And for some reason it feels like it feels a bit more eager with revs - obviously its minimal though. Someone may / may not be able to notice it, and as mentioned if you buy one with expectations it could well be in your head.
