VW Scirocco III - typical defects and problems, recalls

Post by RoccoScientist »

This link was posted on another forum and since the issue of possible engine troubles has come up at least a few times, I thought it could be an interesting read to some. The site consists of a list of typical problems and possible recalls (also for VW Golf).

http://www.michaelneuhaus.de/scirocco/s ... obleme.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (in German)
Translated version with Google translate

Note: The list isn't complete and it isn't actually official. It may also have errors. So don't take it as the final, absolute truth.

 Sorry, should have used the search before posting. Didn't mean to unnecessarily contribute to the constant stream of new topics. If you wish to close or remove this topic, I have no objections.

Got acceess to VCDS? Go into the Engine - 01 and look at this screen. If it has the correct software, then it have G5859 (man.) or G5860 (DSG). I suspect with your build date around December2009/January2010, that it will show G5447 or G5448 and therefore requires the ECU software upgrade.

If not, visit your dealer and ask them to check whether your Scirocco is subject to the 24S4 Workshop Campaign - Bulletin TPI-2023310/5. The VW system will flash up a big warning on their PC screen if its required when they enter the Scirocco's chassis number. Takes about an hour and should be at no cost. Irrespective of the engine running OK, it is preferable it is updated.

thanks RW1.

yes the built date was around that time.

mind you i am temped to buy a VAG-com, but its a tad expensive at nearly 300 £.

where does one plug the cable? don't remember seeing a USB socket that can access the CPU.

the diagnosics port is at the bottom on the door side of the drivers dash sort of, if you make an under & up motion you should find it, the plug is purple iirc (its not a usb connection)

to be honest Trix, i am a bit afraid to mess with the VAG-com, even if i am a sucker for gadgets.

i am scared of messing things up and voiding the warranty.

though i'd love to access a diagnostic 'second' opinion myself before seeking help.
