iPhone 4 Compatibility

Post by whicher »

Hey guys,

Thought you might be interested as I had a devil of a time finding out from the dealer whether the iPhone 4 was compatible with the RNS 510 Nav System for iPod integration and Bluetooth Telephone Prep from VW. I've had confirmation from them that it is now fully compatible with both. I have also tested it with my friends new Golf, which had an RCD 510. My iPhone pared with his car with no problem over Bluetooth and all functions seemed to work through the head unit. Even though when I plugged in the iPhone to the MDI the phone came up with an error to say the accessory was not compatible, it seemed to work fine. All my music was available to play through the head unit.

Hope that helps and I'm looking forward to having a proper play when my car is delivered!!

Take care,
James

Yep. My iPhone 4 works a treat over bluetooth with my RNS 510. Very pleased with how it all works and the full control. Although I can't get on with the voice commands. I don't plug it in for music though as I use a separate high capacity iPod.

Looks like you live near me James. look out for my white R and give me a wave.

Sorry James,

I got your pm but as I'm new to the forum I need more post before I'm able to pm myself. So in short, I can't reply yet.
It wasn't me at Citygate BTW. I'm normally seen nearer the Thames.
Enjoy your car when it arrives.

The iPhone works fine on the latest Bluetooths, all depends how old the BT is, i assume its a newly built car so it should be OK

Hi everyone. first time posting (and probably not last)

Just got myself an 09 scirocco tdi

When I try and pair my iPhone 4s it finds the phone in the device list then shows mobile phone not compatible.

Is there a firmware upgrade for the rcd510 fitted or another way to get it working?

Please help as this is the only thing I can fault with this car (apart from only getting 7 days out of a set of front discs, must upgrade)

As your car is an 09 plate it's fitted with the older BT module which only works with rSAP phones.

I believe the only solutions is to change the BT module to one of the latest ones which are compatible with the iPhone 4

Have since found this
http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-bluetooth-m ... id315.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
which states that it will do what I desire. However the ebay listing doesnt include mic & cable which I will already have but not sure if compatible.

That article is good but a little confusing! My car is an 09 but has the red MFD, all the units that are for sale on ebay say they are only compatible with cars that have the white display.

I assume this means that a main dealer is likely to be the best place for me to get the correct module?

Anyone have any ideas what they will charge for one? I'm guessing slightly more than the £75 they go for on ebay???

Thanks

MY2010 :) white dash display and multi-function GTi-style steering wheel!
So far we've found: Flat Tyre Indicator, RNS510 SatNav with Premium Bluetooth & ipod/media-in connection, Parking Sensors (a must-have!), electric folding/heated mirrors,
Had the stainless sills fitted by the dealer, & luxury mats supplied. Fitted the covered cupholder myself

Same problem here - I went to the dealer and made a bit of a fuss, saying that for a 25 grand car it wasn't really acceptable to not accept all makes of phones; result achieved! VW supplied the new module - I just had to pay for fitting, about 80 quid.
Hope this helps

Nutjob,

I have the exact same problem as you!! I recently purchased a second hand 09 plate 2.0 Tdi GT (140) which has VW premium Bluetooth but it WILL NOT pair with my iPhone 4s. The car will recognise the iPhone but will not pair as the 'telephone not compatible' message comes us. Also, the iPhone does not 'find' the VW. I brought this up with my local dealer and was told that I would require an updated UMTS kit?? :? Which would cost around £340 (without fitting)!! This is the only fault I have and would love to resolve this issue but I think £340 is a bit excessive?!

Any suggestions welcome

Newer boxes are usually available on Ebay from eastern europe at a fraction of the cost although if you have a red instrument cluster im not sure even the umts kit the dealer sells is compatable, well it might work the phone but not dispay inbetween the clocks
