I just shouted at VW, they fixed mine in the end. I did tell the Service manager I was going to park the F*** Car on top of him and made my feelings quite know, and told VW finance to come and collect the car as it wasn't fit for purpose as I couldn't drive it in the rain.
I had already had the "modified blades" they worked for two weeks. VW CS collected the car and returned it fixed, apparently they applied a "special solution" to the screen. Well a year later it still seems to work, although not perfect as it does flick a bit of water back on the screen from the edge but it clears and is 100 times better then it was. I wonder if they polished the glass which would make more sense, something like Rainx would only last a few months.
Very disappointed with VW, I really had to lose my rage with them to get it sorted, Shame I love the car but would probably avoid another VW because of the incompetent dealers / CS.

They most likely used G052 184 A1 which removes all contaminates/waxes/synthetic waxes off glass. It can be used as a windscreen wash additive when mixed with water. It's so concentrated it is mixed as 1:100 additive:water. Powerful stuff. It used to be D 005 100 10 for non-fanjet windscreen washer systems.

Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory
23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,
29 Oct'09 at dealersDriving 4th Nov. Sorted!
I had the same problem. The dealer replaced the blades with blades from a VW Jetta. It solved the problem. There has been no "smear" on the screen for a year. I was told that the Jetta-blades puts at bit more preassure on the screen.
I don't know if that is the right explanation...but somehow it works :-)

After a year and a half of continual complaints and visits to my dealer, I still have wipers that are so bloody useless you cant drive the car at night in rain. I've had every excuse told to me and every problem is my fault, wipers damaged by ice, yet I keep the car in a garage and dont use it when the weathers icy, wax on the windscreen from my car wash, yet I use snowfoam and straight shampoo, then its cos I dont use vw screenwash. At my wits end! I think i'm gonna try the bosch blades, but if that dont work I just dont know what to do. I've told my dealer and vw cs that I will never buy a vw again because of this and they just couldnt care less, disgusting in my opinion, a fantastic car on a dry day, a complete heap of shit when it rains, i look forward to the day it goes!
Get the Bosch ones - mine have been on 3 weeks now, and are better than all 3 sets of crap VW ones replaced under warranty.
Aceparts for under £22 delivered for the pair (anyone seen cheaper?). I don't take super special care to not get product on the windscreen - I use a turtlewax wash/wax solution that does inevitably wash the windscreen as well - the Bosch blades don't mind this. I have previously kept the windscreen free of all wax/wash stuff and only used VW stuff to clean and used their screenwash and the VW (Valeo) blades were still crap.

For some warranty issues, VW and/or the dealers don't seem to have an answer, be it windscreen wiper performance or a squeaky supercharger clutch on a 1.4 TSI. When they can't put it right they always fob you off. They obviously prefer to spend a little less on their wipers at the manufacturing stage - that cost saving must outweigh their perceived damage to their reputation through lack of customer satisfaction. No one expects to shell out big money on a car to have it fall on the most basic of component performance.

Write them a letter saying your going to sue them for the cost of the car and all the inconvenience cause on the grounds the car is not fit for purpose, (I live in England and can't drive it in the rain) I'm sure a couple of hundred from here who have suffered with this will turn up as witness. I think the judge will get the point by the time the 100th witness is called, not that VW would let it get that far, I’m sure they would give you a refund before they let that go public. Maybe a Letter to VOSA and I'm sure the windscreen will not comply; they have the power to force a recall on the car. Also find any Sciroccos that have been involved in a crash in the rain, I'm sure the insurance companies would only be too happy to get the million odd pound they have no doubt paid out in the last couple of years.
If you speak to consumer direct (http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/) they will tell you were you stand legally, it is free and they are very helpful.

As 1st poster said - Bosch Aerotwin A980S are the ones you need. Should be easy to find in the aceparts website.

Up in Scotland both verve dealers won`t replace under warrenty because its a wear issue. I just bought new vw ones for a tenner and the smear has gone again
They say it comes back though, when, is a different question though.
I was thinking about getting these done under warranty, however from other people reports that the smearing starts again very quickly, I just ordered a set of Bosch Aerotwin A980S from eBay - £20.70 inc delivery - http://bit.ly/g4m2oo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Right, I ordered the Bosch wipers (980S aerotwin) from wipersdirect and they have since arrived and it finally rained! Verdict, well, i dont want to get too excited, but so far so good. Once I've been for a proper drive down the road in some proper rain I'll post back my findings. If these do the trick I'm going back to the dealer, and threatening them with legal action and will get a letter written to VOSA tonight and see if they are interested. once I prove the Bosch blades work I will put the crap VW Valeo ones back on and see if problems return. I will then show this to my hopeless dealer. They will remain nameless, but are based in Inverness and I wouldnt let them touch the car with a barge pole personally, the garage guys are useless tw*ts. So far they broke my steering wheel while fitting cruise control, broke a piece of trim while replacing my instrument cluster, fixed a puncture and didnt bother to balance the wheel and finally, the last time I got the car back after they'd been looking at the wiper smear, they gave me the car back with the radio asking me to input the code!
lewis please can you post the amazon link, the only ones on Amazon seem to be £17.70 + £3.99 i.e. £21.69
Been loving the wiper bliss however when using the washers I do find that the wipers still leave a bit of spray in my left eye vision, a few more wipes get rid of this however it can be annoying.

It is with absolute apology that – perhaps as a result of the excitement of ridding my car of the wiper problems – that I miscalculated the price believing the postage to be included. Your maths are indeed correct – nevertheless, I still consider the price (now including postage) to be reasonable and have not found cheaper elsewhere.

Lewis
For anyone else looking at getting these Bosch wipes, i got mine for £20.70 inc delivery http://bit.ly/g4m2oo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Right, had the blades on a few weeks now and so far they have cured all the smear problems. Been through snow, sleet and rain and they have performed faultlessly throughout. Why do VW not fit a good quality non faulty blade like these bosch ones from the factory? I put the new VW ones I have back on and the smear comes back, so my next visit to the dealers will be intersting cos I am gonna show them this too and see if they still insist the problem is not caused by there rubbish valeo blades!
In Poland is much cheaper then wiper. In England it should be 1K0955429 number but it shouldn't be very important because plastic things don't fit to Scirocco wipers. Maybe on Monday I will make some photos when I will be making second wiper.
