MP3's on DVD??

Post by andythilo »

Ok so the RCN510 or wot not accepts DVD videos. But does it accept DVDs with MP3s on it? Reason I ask is I tried one and it didn't work which I thought was strange, but thought maybe I had it in the wrong format, if that is possible?

Also how come the stupid 6 disk changer doesn't accept MP3 CD's? Jesus, it's 2009 not 1999.

Of course I tried the only SD card I have, a 4 Gb SDHC, but that doesn't work either.

Is the compatibility of the NAV really this crap?

If I take the changer out, will I have a USB socket?

Oh when I said it's 2009 not 1999, I meant the car was built in 2009.

The RCD510 accepts MP3 CDs, not sure about the RCN510. Does the RCN come with a separate changer, instead of being built in to the head unit?

Maybe it's your burning software - I always use Nero.

Not sure about the DVD, but the RCD & RNS both support MP3 CD's in the changer so effectively you could have 1200 tracks in your changer !! (6 x 200 MP3's)

I put MP3s in the changer last night and it didn't accept them, they work fine in the main head unit.

Gotta say, I love the car, but the RNS without the ipod interface is terrible for MP3's

I eventually got a 2Gb card and loaded my tracks on. Took about 40 mins to copy the whole card to the HD, then I found that some tracks weren't there because of naming problems! What a load of crap.

If it were my car, i'd rip the POS changer out and fit the MDI in (if thats possible).

Oh well i'll have to put up with it!

Just get a portable USB HDD, prices for a 500GB aren't steep at all, not that would need that, I'm sure. I would love to have the 32GB limit, but only have 2GB, so using a 16GB card into the USB MDI lead right now.

Ryy, Andy has the 6CD changer with the satnav so does not have the MDI connection (ie no USB connection to install suggested harddrive) with the satnav its one or the other.

Sorry, I saw "but the RNS without the ipod interface is terrible for MP3". Thought he could use the USB, rather than iPod interface.

There is no iPod interface either Ryy, you only get a 3.5mm mini jack for AUX in.

Yeah, it's not good to be honest. If the changer accepted MP3 cds it wouldnt be so bad. Or indeed if the head unit took a larger SD it wouldn't be a problem.

They do go up to 32GB (Head units), but that needs a re-flash (update firmware) which depends on your unit. I know I'd kill mine, so just not risking it.
