Best methods to remove surface contaminents...

After only 4000miles I'm noticing that my white Scirocco is collecting more and more tar speckles across the boot paint work which doesn't come off in a normal sponge wash. Is there any safe methods/products out there that can restore the paint work back to perfect form?

Autoglym do a tar remover if you want a highstreet type shop, or if online try AS Tardis, also claying the car will remove them too

Claying will be best bet although I have also started using Tardis which breaks down tar spots etc. Both will strip any wax / sealant you may have used.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The clay stuff sounds good but not to impressed if it strips off the waxes underneath I can see it making more work having the re-wax all over.

Wouldn't autoglym tar remover do the same in terms of stripping any wax off?

Say for example I used the clay method would the Meguiars Gold Class wax be any good for putting a protection back on my car's paint?

You are quite right, if you're using the likes of Tardis then you'll need to make sure the paintwork is properly protected again afterwards.

I did mine in the summer using Tardis, clay bar and Aquartz which is another product for removing surface contaminants.

I find if you keep the car well waxed then the occasional polish gets 90% of the marks off. Just have to keep on top of it.

I heard Dunk tar and bug remover is good but i can't find it anywhere for sale -(

Another one for Autoglym Tar Remover, I generally wait until I'm planning to give the car a wax and use this with a microfibre cloth to get all the tar spots off before waxing, a tiny amount on the cloth actually goes a long way.

Having had a browse of the Polished Bliss web site they seem to recommend both claying and tar remover as they do subtly different jobs.

Been using them since Rich was starting up and operating out of his garage - great people to deal with and they know their stuff. Last time I collected an order from them (probably in 2009 as it wasn't long after I got my Scirocco), they had a Salsa Red one in being detailed.

Incidentally for anyone with a CW Rocco Polished Bliss sell the Jeffs Werkstat range which gets many favourable reviews over on Detailing World.

Not many places stock that range and it's how I discovered them in the first place.

That's what I'm using on mine, and also the CC which is silver. On darker paintwork, I was using Blackfire range and that gave excellent results.

My order arrived today, although DHL seem to have some funny ideas.

Collection depot - Aberdeen. Check.
Delivery depot - Aberdeen. Check.

So why on earth did DHL decide that the box should go on a jaunt to Edinburgh, just to come back to Aberdeen! Makes no sense.
