Which Tyre?

Hi,

I have a GT 2.0 TSI 2010 which has the 19" factory upgrades.

I hit a pothole this weekend and need to get the O/S/F tyre replaced.

The tyre is a Pirelli P Zero (235/35/19 91Y).

I am confused though as there are so many variations of that tyre! The closet I can find is a K1 which some people say is for Ferrari use only!

Would anyone be able to shed some light on what tyre I might need?!

That means it's Ferrari approved I think. N1 is Porsche approved IIRC - tyre will be more than OK for a VW, but you might be paying more for the K1 rating.

Thanks for the reply Actus Reus.

I have actually spoken to Pirelli about this.

They have advised me that the Scirocco (at that wheel spec) actually uses the same tyre as the Ferrari (K1).

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me - a 19" rim is quite large so quite a common size on Fezzas (probably on the front - I'd imagine rear tyres are a bit wider on Ferraris). I do wonder if the same tyre is available without the K1 rating though? Certainly when I had my Boxster you paid extra for N1 rated tyres, when other 19" tyres would have fitted, possibly even from the same tyre manufacturer.

same things happened to me, 2week old car and the pot hole smashed my alloy and put a hoel in the side wall on the way home from work tonight!!!

sooo friking pissed off!! the council is getting a phone call in the morning for a claim report! have you had any prices yet for the tyre?

I feel your pain Andre! I was fuming after it happened to me!

I got the tyre replaced by Event tyre for £220!

I have it booked in with VW for a diagnostic check though as I feel that it may have done more damaged then I first thought!

When I turn the wheel whilst driving I hear a whinning noise on the same corner that hit the pothole!

I have already gathered all my eveidence to take my case to the council!

Bear in mind people that your councils will do what they can not to pay - essentially, as I understand it, each stretch of road must be inspected in a certain manner with a certain regularity (sideroads hardly ever, main roads very frequently). If the road has been inspected and the hole not reported they may wriggle out saying the hole wasn't there when they last looked (you'd have to prove it was - good luck with that!) OR they may have spotted the hole, in which case they have a set time in which they are allowed to fix it. If you're in that window, again, tough luck. It's only if the hole was spotted and then not repaired within the set amount of time (and your 'accident' was after this amount of time too) that you have a claim...

you was rite the tyres are k1 it cost me £175+vat +£40+vat for refurb! i hopefully will get it back tho! :-\

Same for me as above above; probably a pothole caught my 19" Pirelli 2353ZR19 91YPZERO XL RO1. Losing 10 psi overnight - more on a journey. Got bored pumping it up every hour. Turned out to be rip on inside tyre edge. Was advised same tyre listing for Ferrari and Lambos - Hence £ 300- with VAT, balancing and on site swap. Plus had to wait a day on the space saver.Will get the other repaired for £ 40- but that takes a week and I had too many miles to do to be held at 50 mph.

Just logged on for first time in ages to check Scirocco tyre sizes and find this thread - I've managed to destroy a tyre on my way home tonight after hitting a pothole in the dark

Tyre is well and truly a goner, bit worried about damage to the wheel and suspension also so will be dropping it off at the VW garage on Monday. Would help if they bothered to fix the potholes properly instead of just patching them every time

Great on good, smooth, flowing roads. Better feel. On average roads in the winter can be a little bumpy - really depends on your roads, what you can stand and how much driving your doing. Although I do have the car in comfort 95% of the time because of road conditions.

£237 fitted and balanced is the cheapest by me out of the 3 local dealers i tried.......jog on! haha i need to get some though so internet it is!
