wing mirror repair

Iam looking for some help guys on a diy repair on the wing mirror ,i caught it on the garage frame which has scuffed the outer case and chipped the built in indicator,vw quoted 7 for the outer case and 23 for the indicator so not too bad ,if anyone has changed either of these i would be greatful for some fitting help before i try.mirrors are not folding elec or have puddle lights .i could get away with changing just the casing as the indicator bit just has a very small chip,any advise is greatful, just to confirm its the matt black trim which goes above the mirror the colour coded back section is not damaged

Its not so bad, i have been playing with a whole new unit today, basically you need to pop the mirror out (being very careful, the etka guide shows you pushing it in at the top whist using a special VW tool to pop it from the base, , the mirror cap pops of from the outside edge again using VW special tool, then unscrew two screws that hold the surround in, then the surround clipped in at two points on the top and just pops out, i can get you pictures if you like, i also have the Elsa repair guides that i can mail you

thanks any pics or info will help ,the damage on the trim is very small and the chip on the indicator the same but ive just bought the car and its unmarked so would like to try to keep it that way,is the vw tool a must or can you use something else thanks again for reply

I did it today and it went OK , as i said press the top of the glass till it pushes in, then use something to push the bottom of the glass out (i used a Bojo trim tool), just use something thin and strong, it clicks out quite easily, then undo the wires (make a note of where the wires go), then from there its a bit more complicated, the little square lights that sit inside the housing are amazingly delicate and break very easily, if you break it then its a whole new part again !!, anyway can you get a picture of where the damage is ?, PM me you email and i will send you the elsa files.

hi thanks again for continued help ,i cant pm you as iam new on here,the damage is a small area on the top plastic cover in black which runs around the circumferance on the mirror,£7.00 from vw i could probably get away with not replacing the indicator if that means poss damage in trying to remove as it has tiny chip right in corner,vw want 23 from the indicator ,can i change the cover once the glass is removed without further parts being dismantled or poss damaged,is the glass easy to refit thanks once again for your help

Changing the front cover is the dangerous bit TBH, that's where the inside little light gets damaged, its real bad design and I'm 80% sure on you snapping it off.
when the glass is removed you undo two bolts, then you snap the cover off, this is when the little light (not so much a light but a bit of plastic that carries the light) snaps .Might be an idea to see what VW will charge you as you only need to snap one idicator and your bill £60

Something that may help is removing the motor and then undoing the screw that holds the indicator in ?, I did not try this as my motor was tight in it's location and the power cable seemed tight too

I had exactly the same problem and fixed it my myself.. It's very easy, just need a torx screw.

If you didn't manage to fix this, I can give you more help and photos
