Best diesel engine for roc for power v weight ration

Post by Karl1984 »

Hi all.

I'm on the verge of buying a rocco but need input into the best diesel engine. I own a MkV 1.9tdi Golf which I love but its getting on a bit...but love the economy of the diesel engine.
So what I want really, is for Roc TDI owners to enlighten with with their personal views and experiences, so I know which ad's I should go and look at!

Thanks in advanced.

I have recently got the Tdi 140 with a DSG gearbox. Absolutely fantastic, I love it! Plenty of power to overtake and still doesn't seem to lack anything going from 70-90 on the motorway so your never short really. Would definitely recommend it.

Really depends on what the majority of your driving is like - if the daily commute is stop/start traffic is there any point going for the larger engine? Also what engine is in the 1.9 as that probably would help you decide as the CR engine has smoother power delivery from lower down the revs than the PD engines did.

I can't fault the 140 - does everything I want it to and DSG is great - lazy driving. :)

170 Tdi all the way, you wouldn't think it was a diesel when you drive it. Try and test drive both cars, you'll notice quite a difference for not too much of a sacrifice in economy.
Rocc on!

Hi Karl am just about to buy a 140 tdi quick call tomorrow

Only took it for a quick spin on country road and didnt get a real good chance to open her up but im coming from a Audi A6 3.0tdi quattro le mans which had remapped so just short of 300bhp and the Roc didnt seem bad to be fair. One option is go for the 140bhp if not happy down the line get a remap, I used Angel Tuning on the Audi they came to home £250... loads of good feedback on forums. If remapped would be about 175bhp and probably smoother power delivery than the 170bhp VW map at a guess. The maps do tend to get rid of flat spots as had one done on a MG ZT cdti years ago by Upsolute.

Got to wait a week before pick up  decided to downsize since splitting from wife and doing fair few miles to see the kids, just hope they fit in back, tried booster and forward facing car seat and leg room didnt look bad and im 6ft 2. Infact tried a bit of paper to measure it and if drop drivers seat right down, wheel right forward there is actually a fraction more space between edge of back seat and back of drivers seat compared to the A6....maybe down to angles/shape of seats etc.

Test drive both, I went for the 170 as I do alot of motorway work. It sounds good and has loads of power very economical too,

the 170 is the only way to go! you'll never be disapointed and you can still get it remapped to 210bhp and the torque goes through the roof!
theres no point buying a 140 if your expecting to have to remap it cause it dont have enough poke, start with the 170 then it only gets better.
insurance isnt much different either. i personally think that the 140 is just not good enough for the price and quality of the rocco, its a sporty car and needs the power to suit it.

I gotta say 170 too....

But to be fair I didn't get to try the 140 as I was deciding between the 2.0 tsi and the 170 tdi....

Have tried the 140cr tdi in a golf though...

Like it has been said before if you will use the extra power then its definitely the way to go...

Only complaint I have with mine is how long the tyres lasted....

Also added a 140 to that other link... http://www.zeperfs.com/en/match3222-3494-2773.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :)

I want to thank those who had input in this. I'm now the proud owner of a White Rocco 140bph tdi! I LOVE IT!!!!! Will change the alloys sooner or later though as I've got the standard Doningtons and i think the Interlago's look better..... :D
