Xenon's are off again...

Post by klippie »

Over the weekend I went around the dealers to order my new Scirocco one of the options I wanted were the bi-xenon lights a few of the dealers told me they had heard they can't be ordered anymore one dealer said he would telephone VW today to see whats happening and sure enough he phoned me today to confirm xenons cannot be ordered on the Scirocco also VW told him they don't know when they'll be available again plus there is a back-log of xenon orders to fill before any more can be taken...

Not good. It seems you can't spec them on the MKVI Golf yet either, atleast you can't on the online configurator. How hard can it be? The parts are in production, obviously they just can't deliver enough units.

I am so glad that I ordered mine when I did, if I waited until the monday after I ordered I would of missed out on them. Its a bit shit that they cannot supply the demand for them.

The main reason I havent ordered one yet is due to the xenon issues. A shortage is one thing but they've been unable to supply Golfs and Sciroccos with Xenons for months now (who knows about other cars in the group). This is very poor from a company the size of VW and to launch the Mk6 Golf without the option of Xenons (when the likes of Renault, Ford and Vauxhall all have them available) makes VW look a little inept. Xenons are the one item that I said my next car must have. But to be honest, this situation is getting stupid. I'm tempted to just spec the winter pack and then retro fit the xenons once they become more readily available.

I'm not putting down a deposit on mine until I see newly ordered xenon cars being delivered. I think the few xenon cars we've seen on here were ordered long ago. I wouldn't be too happy leaving a few grand with my dealer in the current climate (things are v bad in the motor trade over here)

I've retrofitted vw xenons before, it's a big job. I'll pay out the money this time. Check it out here http://www.passatworld.com/forums/showt ... ?p=2195092 and that's without the self-levelling.

They've got to get it sorted soon, surely. They can't afford to be loosing sales like this in the current climate, not many people are going to wait indefinately for them to be available, they'll just go off and buy something else.

Roll on LEDs as standard i say. I just got a new torch today, a Lenser P7, and it's virtually as good as my cumbersome xenon £600 jobby, very similar type of light, very compact, lightweight, efficient etc. A bigger LED would be just as good as a Xenon bulb. I don't get why cars just don't come with LEDS, halogen bulbs seem rediculously 20th century by comparison, no-one wants a halogen bulb in a torch these days (for good reason-they're crap, yellow and inefficient), why do we have 'em in our cars  .

I'm sure i saw or read about a new production car with LED main headlights recently. Might have been a Lexus? Can't remember though.

Edit; found this http://www.driver247.com/news/9439.asp .The R8 has them, i'm sure i've seen them on something else more recently though. Anyway, it's clearly the way forward. I'm glad to have Xenons on the car for now but they're expensive in the first place, expensive to replace the bulbs, and according to this, new LEDs are getting more efficient than xenon anyway.

Hmmmm.... I've heard that having Xenons makes you impotent and gives you really bad body odour.

I'm not envious of you at all...........
