is the bluetooth kit already installed if you dont order it?

Post by mrsail »

bascially as the title says..... is the bluetooth kit already installed if you dont order it on build?

bascially Im waiting on a new scriocco gt on a lease and wondered if it was cheaper for me to just pay the £250 to have bluetooth enabled.... or retrofit / code it after?

I hoped to get satnav also but couldnt afford it from VW at nearly £1500.... as its a lease I would never see benefit at end!
I aimed to get someone to fit a VWRNS510C and code it in (if needed) for about £550, then at end of contract put the original one back... so bascially would lose hardly anything... as could sell unit at end of contract..

he will use vag to code satnav in... I was hoping he could code the bluetooth kit but he says I need to buy a seperate bluetooth kit for £300.... £50 more than the VW install from new?

Im really confused now with something I thought was so simple.....!

any help apreciated!

Bluetooth handsfree is not preinstalled unless you specify it. The kit will be 1. Bluetooth transceiver, 2. Microphone and lead to location in headlining, 3. Cables to connect Bluetooth transceiver to radio/nav unit and CANBUS network...

Factory satnav (rns510) includes the microphone and wiring as part of the price..

As above, non of the bits are there at all, I'm suprised you would think they would put them there but not charge you if you didn't spec it.

Someone told me they were and just believed them stupidly......

I did think it made sence tho as thought it was just a mic (which would be buttons) and the bluetooth was built into the CD unit so therefore would just need enabling.... but obviously more to it...

I take it its cheaper to pay £250 on build then to retrofit....... the car is being delivered in feb/march but havent had build date yet.... is it too late to update order do you think if cheaper?..... its through a leasing company

Check out the Fiscon Bluetooth rather than the factory fitted. The range of phones it supports is better and you can upgrade the firmware yourself. It is also controlled via the radio and the steering wheel buttons.

Ok yeah that might be good idea, at least at end of lease I can take out unit then....
As car is on a 2 year lease I really hate paying hundreds if not thousands for extras I give back to the lease company at end!....

Do you know if I just buy a VW satnav unit off ebay say, is it just a case of swapping all the leads over to get it to work? and do you need any special tools to remove the unit?

The RNS will fit straight in, there are no special tools needed to install it, you basically remove the trim from around the stereo, undo 4 bolts and remove the old unit, unclip the multi block and the remove the aerials, then put the GPS antenna in the dash area, re attach cables, put bolts back in and clip on the front, to be done properly the unit needs to be coded into the Canbus using VCDS, but its not necessarily needed (this is ambiguous as it depends how the RNS was coded before you got it, i.e having been programmed for Dynaudio etc) as it just throws some errors up under VCDS mostly.
