UK purchase and delivery
Hi - I am a recent forum member, hoping for some advice on buying!
I test drove a few cars last weekend (Audi, BMW, Alfa, VW) and decided on a Scirocco - I have been mulling over spec over the last couple of days - 1.4 (160) in Candy White, 18" Interlagos, Dynaudio, DAB, multi-function wheel, winter pack, folding mirrors & reversing sensors. Was in two minds over the 122 / 160 engine but even though I do mostly town driving, there will always be those occasions where I wish that I got the 160, so despite the extra money (which will all probably be lost by depreciation!) I 'think' I am going with the 160.....
I checked some broker sites and found a good deal (they would order via a main dealer.) I then took the deal to my local VW dealer, but they could offer me only 50% of the discount offered through the broker. When I enquired about the quote which included VAT at 20% (VW are apparently making an offer to hold VAT at 17.5% for orders placed before November,) the main dealer suggested they had used all their 'allocation' so they would have to add the charge on! This all sounds a bit strange........but take it or leave it I suppose. I then re-checked with the broker, who said they had already factored in this VAT 'discount' into the quoted price, so come delivery I would still have to pay the extra 2.5% on top of the quote! That said, the broker was still over £1200 cheaper.
Now down to delivery, the broker suggested a long wait for delivery and said a likely delivery date of at least May (which seems a long time!?) The local VW dealer 'suggested' we would be looking at March (but would not know for sure until it was ordered - so he could have just been saying that to secure a deal??) I would have assumed that all main VW dealers had a central system and that would allocate factory order cars on a 'first come first served' basis, so it wouldn't matter where I brought my car from in terms of delivery times, or am I missing something?? Will it make any difference which dealer I go to - does anyone know the inside story of how all this works?
Hoping to order by the end of the week, even though it may be a long old wait - any advice from you guys would be appreciated!

Re: UK purchase and delivery
It all appears to be down to luck I'm afraid...there are a number of threads covering the subject of build delays and any number of causes...I personally ordered my Scirocco in September and although the factory has received the rider I dont even have a allocated build week...I'm not expecting delivery until March atvthe earliest!

Re: UK purchase and delivery
Hi sicourt
I've ordered tho a broker "Drive the deal" Good discount, handed over to the nominated dealer to place the order, mine was placed with the dealer on 12th Oct and they've given me an est delv of Feb/March 2011. However it all depends on and if the dealer has a monthly allocation slot for a scirocco available before he can officially place the factory order with VW. After they receive the factory order they then schedule the vehicle in and generate the build week. My dealer was not wholly truthful with me about there allocation quota! I found out tho VW UK that mine was not ordered with them, and that my dealer did not have allocation until Dec 2010. Each dealer has different allocations of different models based on there size & turnover etc I'm guessing!
After some heated discussions with my dealer i've been given an allocation slot by my dealer, from an existing customer of theirs who has cancelled their order, so i'm now awaiting a confirmation of order acceptance by VW factory and a build week! The dealers are being unrealistic with est delv dates and VW UK are very aware of this so much so that they have changed the rule that if a vehicle goes beyond 16 weeks vw would supply a courtesy car until delivery - From Nov 1st it is down to the dealer to fund that courtesy vehicle. Maybe they will be more realistic and honest if they're footing the bill!!!!
Btw This dealer is now saying new orders will have a lead-in time of approx 8 months.
Sorry to be kind of negative, but i think its important to be given straight, realistic and honest info.
Regards Jeff

8 months! This is going from bad to worse! gonna have to stop reading posts like this..my heart can't cope!
I spoke to VW Monday and they confimred a hire car would be made available after 16 weeks but never mentioned this would be dealer funded...I waiting for the dealer to squirm on the hook about that, they won't change the message being given to customers they'll just deny the hire cars unless VW are insisting on it as part of the. franchise terms!

Re: UK purchase and delivery
Really Sorry, I'm pretty miffed to, but just want everyone to be aware and ask the pertinent questions of the dealership. Got that update re: hire car from VW UK yesterday & the time of 16 weeks only starts after the vehicle is actually factory ordered. I believe the dealer has to honour it as part of the franchise!
Nice colour choice btw I deliberated long n hard!

Re: UK purchase and delivery
Now that's thebquestion factory ordered!
VW customer services conformed they have the have the order on the system...is this the same as factory ordered! According to me lease company the status is shown as Status P -Awaiting allocation!
The update I received had the following status
P - Awaiting Allocation
V - Allocation Assigned
00 - Assigned to factory, no production week scheduled
10 - Factory Ordered with production week
20 - Factory ordered with confimred build week
I have a SLI number and VW confirm the order was placed with them 24/9
Maybe I was sleeping too easy thinking if the car didn't turn up when my current car is returned it'd be replaced by a hire car...
What a nightmare...if things don't improve, and soon, I'll be voting with my wallet...of course we are now too far down the process to change, as other marques have similar 12-16 lead-times! Over a barrel springs to mind...back to BMW for me next time and the other 1/2 won't be ordering that Audi come July!

Re: UK purchase and delivery
Hmm In my case VW had given the dealer a commission number against my name, but no order had been given to factory - they, the dealer was awaiting allocation quota! Apparently VW UK can see on the system what allocation the individual dealers have & have left month by month. I'd suggest phoning VW direct Quote the order No and ask for the status (Tel 0800 333666) was the number I used and got a helpful assistant.
Good Luck! I really hope all's in place and is well for you.

Another... Who is sill waiting? roll call[split]
Hi,
Just wanting to hear other peoples experiences re order waiting times through lease companies? I ordered my 170 on the 22nd October but I havent heard anymore about when I would expect delivery. I realise that the few weeks I have waited so far is nothing in comparison to other peoples experiences but should I have heard anything at all by now? My lease company keep telling me that they are waiting for VW.
Thanks.

i've shifted your post to here, its not totally related but will give you a place to start from as all the information regarding delivery timescales of normal sciroccos (rather than Rs) are in general scirocco talk so have a peruse through the various threads in here & see what other people have experienced & i'm sure others will be along to help too.
do be aware though the fact you are looking elsewhere (t'interweb) for information & therefore may end up knowing more then them about the process than them may scare them

Im reading with interest, my 16 weeks are up tomorrow on my 170 GT Tdi. Lease car company has told me im due a hire car but havn't hear anything from the dealer to give me confidence that they will honour this agreement. I have an order number but no build week. What makes it worse is that my Tiguan Goes back on Friday so i could be car less......

Don't confuse a dealer order form number with the VW System. Make sure its a commission order number from the VW system.

Not from when yourself placed it with the dealer or an agent. So you need to know when the order was entered on the VW system. Dealer allocations per month have an influence when they can order. You may find its still some time to go if you enquire deeper!

Re: UK purchase and delivery
recently went into an inchcape dealership to enquire about ordering a new diesel dsg scirocco and was told at present they are looking at a 12 month waiting time from order to delivery as they easily sell all their allocation and at present demand is outstriping supply
