AIR CON SERVICE

Post by pimp my roc »

My Roc is just over two years old (early adopter) my garage is hassling me to take it in for Air Con service, I have never had a car that required a Air Con service (normally keep car 3 years 60k) what is this service about, what do they do and is it really necessary and how much are they going to rip me for??
Anyone had it done or NOT had it done?

Strangely I just found this on the Inchcape website recommending Air Con service every two years after the vehicle is THREE years old, this is the same garage group that is trying to get me to have it done now at TWO years old................sharks all of em.

Air conditioning service (3yrs +)
Air conditioning service for 3 - 10 year old Volkswagens.
Having the air conditioning system serviced every 24 months reduces the likelihood of the system failing.

Over time the gas in the air conditioning systems escapes (about 10% each year) causing the system to work much harder, increasing wear on the components, which could lead to eventual failure.

Replenishing the gas ensures that the system operates effiently and had a longer serviceable life.
All prices include parts, oil, labour and VAT (17.5%) costs.
Prices are valid until 31 December 2010. Up to and including 2.0 litre vehicles.

Sounds like they're emphasising the Con in air con.

Aircon systems can last many years without recharge if they're used regularly. Lack of use causes seals to dry out, shrinkage of the seals to occur and refrigerant to then escape. Just remember to give it a quick blast on a weekly basis.
