exhaust gas pulsator flap

Post by SCOTT »

My car went in yesterday for its first service, nothing to major, however i did tell them while accelerating through the cars, there seems to be a rattle which is quite annoying

picked the car up last night, they found the problem, its the exhaust gas pulsator flap on wastegate, ok is the problem solved, no there is no fix for it and vw have said there is going to be one, they reckon even if they put the new part on the same thing would happen.

i find this quite shocking from vw to be honest, has any one else got this problem and reported it??

any vw techys in here can shed any more light on it please??

i quite annoyed after paying that much for a car that they cant fix a small rattle.

my car is 59 plate incase its just a batch.

thanks in advance.

I'm not even sure what the item mentioned is?? Sounds to me it's the wastegate. It just opens and shuts. Quite secure in the hot side of the turbo. So not sure what kinda rattle the OP is hearing really.

Not for the turbo wastegate rattle. That's what is stated on the bulletin.

As before, a long while back. DG Autotech are willing to investigate and try and find a solution. Unfortunately the customer they have likes his rattle, so they've not be able to look at the problem.

Volunteer?

"because of exhaust gas pulsations the flap and rods of the wastegate vibrate ". Looks like the same existing problem as known.

Hmmm. That is rather poo if the flap and rod from actuator is "loose" enough to vibrate and make a rattle that's loud enough to hear!!

I'm the same. Very surprised that another company has not come up with an alternative.

Vw customer services fobbed me off when i bought mine with a letter stating they knew about the fault and that a cure had not been introduced but to give it time. Well 2 years later I still have the noise, vw still have not admitted its bad quality and have told dealers that it perfectly normal!

Is this rattle/noise between 2000 and 3000 rpm a phenomenon which only occurs on the GT 200/210 BHP 2.0L engines or does the Scirocco R suffer from it as well?
