Top Tip cheap wheel Cleaner
Valeted my Golf on Thursday every time i do i pay particular attention to the wheels and they generally come up pretty clean
However in the corners there always seems to be ground in baked on Brake Dust that just wont budge
Well not any more
Earlier this year we restored a classic Mini and one of the jobs we did was strip,Degrease and Paint the Filthy engine
Well we had half a can of the degreaser left so on Thursday i washed the wheels then covered them in degreaser and simply wiped away all the baked on Brake Dust
This is what i used
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165750" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
When most products for deep cleaning wheels and brake dust cost a minimum of £7.99 and you cant be sure they work this 3in1 degreaser at just £4.99 is a Bargain
And its fabulous at cleaning engines in fact anything that is horribly greasy
Once degreased i just gave them a quick wash then sealed them with Meguiars Wax
Huggz

I dont doubt there are other products out there and if you can protect the wheels from new you can help prevent build up If you buy a second hand car that already has ingrained Brake Dust though the 3in1 Degreaser is fabb at taking away years of brake dust and grime

Re: Top Tip cheap wheel Cleaner
Hi,
I took your advice and I bought some of this degreaser on the weekend. I tried it today, and although I must say it was good (very), it still doesn't shift those little blacks dots in the corners.
Am I I doing something wrong?
Thanks
Nick

Try a tar remover The AG one is worth a go.NickO wrote:Hi,

Re: Top Tip cheap wheel Cleaner
If a product called a "degreaser" is shifting anything from wheels it will be tar and other non-metallic deposits. By all means try another tar remover on the dots, but I suspect what you're left with is burned-in brake dust. I've had a lot of success cleaning up my MINI's white wheels with Aquartz Iron Cut. I hit the wheels with the Iron Cut, then Tardis, then finally a clay bar+lube before polishing and waxing them. There's not much for the clay bar to remove after the two chemicals have done their work. And after a few layers of wax, you won't need to be quite so heavy on the chemicals in future.

A good sealant for alloys is Finishkare Hi-temp paste wax.

Thanks all
it's the only part of the car I can't keep under total control, so I'm grateful for all the suggestions / recommendations.

Here is a guide from autosmart, I use autosmart smart wheels as it works wonders and is acid free. I don't like things like wonder wheels as they are acidic and can strip the alloy and cause corrosion http://www.autosmart.co.uk/images/PDF%2 ... e%2009.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Top Tip cheap wheel Cleaner
Try Virosol from Clover Chemicals - 5 litre bottle for about £8 (call up Clover to find your local stockist) - dilute it as necessary and is non acidic. Spray on wheels, wash off. (you can even give some to the missus for cleaning the kitchen!!)
Re: Top Tip cheap wheel Cleaner
Meguiars are the best products
Re: Top Tip cheap wheel Cleaner
omg do not use wonder wheels mate, its like an acid will wreck your alloys.
