no

so its not a hot hatch, not that any of this even matters a jot, since nothing changes, hence...

this thread is pointless....

Ask yourself this, is there a 5 door 3 series? (answer = No) but there is a 4 door, as there is no door on the rear, which why most coupes in one form or another are a 2 door saloon.

I rest my case ;) 8)

No its not a pointless thread, I love a bit of banter, its harmless fun and its interesting to see a difference in opinion I know I have my opinion, but its nice to see other peoples views

In practical and mechanical terms it's rebodied hothatch ,with a lower curvier, bespoke body. So it's a sports coupe thingy. But it's a hatch, and it's hot so it's a hot hatch (even though traditionally a hot hatch is a performance version of an existing humdrum hatch). It's both, depending on which way you look at it. In terms ofthe feel/experience of the car it's kind of a half way house, in that it's familiar hot hatch stuff, but feels a little more special (to me).

i dont think you get my drift, or maybe im not getting it across,

my arguement is you cant call a scirocco a hot hatch, because it has no origin as a hatchback, its a purpose built coupe, always was. As for BMW, it started life as a saloon, then turned into a coupe, so it had 4 doors, now 2 doors.

forgive me if im being curt, but im on 12 hour days / 7 days a week, and im working with a bunch of germans who seem hell bent on getting themselves killed "vot does zis mean?? high voltage??" :fall:

god alone knows how these people invented this car, they still think mullets are acceptable!

My my - Ive been away for a couple of days and you boys have started fighting already!!!

Obviously a difference of opinion but I am actaully with both of you - it doesn't matter what the f@ck you classify it as the point is that the Roc is sub zero cool, drives like a demon and gets as many looks as any supercar.

Bentley Continental Coupe pulled up along side me today and the driver gave me the thumbs up - I don't suppose you could call his a sportscar or a hot hatch either?????

Maybe we should have a third category on the poll - cooler than anything else in the above categories!!!

Roc On!!
My Roc was fast - but now its FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me the frameless doors make it a coupe / sports car. Does anyone know of a "hatchback" with frameless doors?

I'd actually initially probably have said hot hatch but after reading the comment about the fact that a hot hatch needs to be a 'sporty version of a mainstream car' I guess that given the Scirocco was built from the ground up to be a sports coupe then that's what it is even though most of the parts in it come from other VW hatchbacks!
