Mirror Down Bulletin

Post by mr_patrick_bateman »

Hi i work in a vw dealership and checked the vw computer for bulletins and there is one regarding mirror down function.

Customer statement/ workshop findings
The mirror cannot sporadically/permanently be adjusted (the mirror is only lowered a little) when reversing.

Technical background
With low voltage during the mirror adjustment (e.g caused by the start) the mirror position for reversing is lost.

Measure
A software update is being prepared. A replacement of the door control unit or mirror does not fix the problem. Postpone the repair till the software update is available.
The customer can still manually adjust the mirror.

When this update comes out i will give it a try as mine is a MY2010 and does not work!

As I recall what was never sorted out was which cars, with which extras were supposed to have the Mirror-down function. Sporadic / permanent faults with the system might explain our confusion over this.

I think this is what mine suffers from if I've picked it up right. I can set the mirror to where I want it when in reverse and it will work fine for a few days, tilting to where it was set when reverse is engaged and returning to normal position when I drive off, but then for no reason will just just stop tilting when reverse is selected and I have to tilt it down again, then it will work for a few more days, and so on! Hopefully the software update will help

Had my 'roc for 2 weeks now - 500 miles in and the mirror down function has just stopped working, tilts about 1 degree and stops.
Hopefully VW will release a software update soon :)

Trix was right! It's not fitted as std to a GT with Winter Pack. In fact the dealer was struggling to tell me when it was fitted to any car.

But at least I had a good chinwag with the Master Tech, who's coming over for some Vag-Com updates and remap discussions.

If your car was ordered with the option, it will have a folding mirror symbol at approximately the 8 o'clock postion on the rotary knob surrounding decal. If not, its blank.

if i dont have the symbol on the rotary knob.
can i change the knob with this:
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=vw+mir ... m270.l1313" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and that will do the trick?

replacing the knob won't give you the functionality for folding mirrors or mirror down :? it requires a lot more than a symbol on the decal
