8 Hours exterior cleaning. Update23/08 Interior

Post by Ian_Mac »

As the Scirocco is coming up to it's first birthday I thought I'd give it a bit of a treat. Having been caught in a few showers on the motorway on Wednesday and all the dead insects it was looking a bit sorry for itself. Luckily I'm house sitting for the folks so dads Karcher came in handy.

Here's a few before pics:

Image

Image

Image

Luckily I came prepared with this lot for the job in hand

Image

The guardian of the micro fibres was looking after the towels

Image

My plan of attack was as follows

* Snow foam the bodywork, Bilberry wheel cleaner on the alloys and Megs APC round the arches

Image

* While the Snow Foam was working it's magic get the 2 buckets ready along with the Werkstat shampoo

Image

* Once washed it was time to get busy with the Tardis, applying to one panel at a time, rub over with a micro fibre and rinse off. It didn't take long for the Tardis to start dissolving the various tar spots.

Image

This is how much tar came off the car

Image

* On with the next stage. Using the Aquartz Iron Cut to remove any `fallout` bonded to the surface. I had noticed a few brown spots on the paintwork when applying the Tardis, looked like very small rust spots. When the Aquartz is sprayed onto a panel it reacts with the contaminants and turns purple in colour as the ferrous particles dissolve into the solution. I was very surprised to see how much purple appeared on the car. Boy does this stuff smell bad. :eyepop:

Image

Image

Image

* With the car fully rinsed it was onto the clay bar stage. Using Sonus green clay with Megs QD as lube the whole car including glass was clayed. Again quite a lot of debris was removed.

Image

Having completed the bodywork and glass I went on to clay the alloys before binning it.

* Another 2 bucket wash with the Werskstat shampoo followed just to remove any remaining residue
* To add some shine to the paintwork I opted for the Werkstat 3 Stage Acrylic Kit. The kit includes a bottle of Prime to prepare the surface then the Acrylic and Gloss sprays. 4 coats of Acrylic were applied leaving 30 mins between each for it cure.

While waiting for the Acrylic to cure 2 coats of Poorboys wheel sealant were applied to the alloys.

Image

The tyres were coated with Blackfire tyre gel and the glass polised inside and out with Eimann Fabrik Clear Vision II.

After the 4 coats of Werkstat Acrylic a final coat of Werkstat Gloss was applied.

The black trim was treated with Autoglym bumper care.

As the exhaust was looking a little dirty it was treated to an Autosol polishing. Here's the before and after pics

Image

Image

All in all it took the best part of 8 hours, no stopping for lunch just pressed on through.

After all that here's the final result.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

All it needs now is a quick hoover out inside then the Poorboys Natural Look Dressing on the dash and the leather cleaning and treating with Gliptone. (job for tomorrow maybe)

I dread to think what the parents neighbours were thinking while all this was going on.

Who says white cars can't shine!

UPDATE

Managed to wake up fairly early this morning and get out before the rain started. The only part of the interior that got touched yesterday was the glass.

This is what I started with this morning

Image

Image

Not too bad really but still needed a little TLC.

After giving everything a good hoover then using Poorboys Natural Look Dressing on the plastic trim here's what I was left with. Also did all the seals with the Gummi Pflege stick.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

:D

And finally, after all the hard work look at it now

Great post and well worth the effort. Can't wait for delivery of my Cady White!
Will need to invest on some products... How do you rate what you used?
Based on the results they work very well but do you have some favorites.

Today was the 1st time I've used the Werkstat kit and I'm very impressed. Same with the Tardis and Aquartz, I'd have no hesitation in recommending them.

I know it was a bit of any outlay cash wise for all the products but seeing the car on the drive now it was well worth while. Also, there's still loads of everything left apart from the Aquartz as I used half the bottle with that one so it'll keep me going for ages.

Only takes 5 mines with the Autosol to bring chrome tips back to life. I used the Autosol on them last time it was cleaned but that was for the Castle Combe meet so over a month ago now.

I'll have to buy some, spent ages on mine with various metal cleaners and they're still stained black.....typical a mate has a Golf GT TDi and her exhausts never even go black, but petrol roc, they're black in about 4 days lol

I got the tip from a guy who did a pro-detail on a Merc I had about 3/4 years ago. Use Autosol and wire wool. This is what it did for the Merc.

gummi pflege (& similar products) stops squeeky window seals and makes them more pliable in cold weather

Sorry Simon, just read your posted there.

Yeah I find the Luganos quite easy to clean, with a small wheel brush and the wash mitt there's no major problems.

Thanks for posting the other Gummi Pflege link Trix
