Fitting a normal bluetooth to the 'roc?

Post by MrSimmo »

Hi All,

So I've gone and got myself a new roc 2010 GT210 and surprise surprise it doesnt support the iphone because it uses RSAP which has been discussed quite a few times. I've got the Rxx510 touch screen nav option.

I phoned up the local VW dealer the other day who reckoned that they now offer a different bluetooth implementation in the roc which does support the iphone (so doesnt use rsap).

Has anyone else heard about this or know whether there is a way to rip out the current bluetooth stack for a working version?

:welcome: Simmo

you can convert the old rsap vw bluetooth to fully functioning bluetooth as you now it by changing the box under the passenger seat for the skoda box, all the info you require should be in this thread

bit of discussion here too

I'd love to know more detail on this too.. I'm awaiting my delivery of a 2010 roc, but didn't go for phone preparation due to the fact it was rSAP.

Does anyone know the part number as per Simmo's request, and also how much trouble this is to fit if you don't already have telephone preparation?

Thanks

Simmo,

Would be great to hear more about this.. especially where you sourced it, what they had to do, and where you had it installed/who by.

I'd like to get the most unintrusive installation in my car, but I'm not sure what the best option is as I already have the mic installed as part of the RNS voice activation and would like to keep it.

Looking forward to your next post !

The bury kit is an alternative option Simon but as maq wants something unobtrusive the additional screen the bury (& parrot) kits have is probably not for him

Agree, the bury kits don't look ideal. Im currently thinking fiscon, with the mic stuck at the top of the a pillar. Sounds the best option, unless a skoda kit can be done nicely..

Thanks, Maq

yes i agree with you trix
i had reservations about having one of these fitted as opposed to the standard rsap version
did i really want to fork out all that money only to have to go and change my mobile again.
i did mention the skoda option to the dealer but the impression i got was that i had just landed on this planet...(possibly) lol.
i opted for the bury version at the time till i did some more reasearch on here and as i got it in with the deal im not complaining.
However i would still like full functionality with the display and steering wheel controls ect and through the ice system.
i have a quick fix solution but may go down the fiscon route once i get the car ect.
i to was like maq and still am really.
also maq just be aware that you have limited time to upgrade the options from the date of order with the dealer as i found out later on when i wanted to add a few more goodies.
To be honest i wish i would have found this site before i ordered so i could have read all the advice before ordering.

Hi Guys,

Right the part is ordered from VW but won't be in the UK till September so I'll let you know how I get on when its in...

but basically the replacement part uses the standard Bluetooth Handsfree profile (so works with iPhone etc) and does support A2DP (Bluetooth audio streaming).

I've currently got the RSAP box under the drivers seat (5n0 035 730 c) as part of the Premium Bluetooth install - this only supports RSAP.

The replacement VW box is part number 7p6 035 730 c. The part number of the Skoda box which has been discussed is 1c0 035 729c but not sure if that supports A2DP.

Ok quick update guys

Installed the new VW Bluetooth module yesterday (7p6 035 730 c), was a simple unplug/plug with the old RSAP unit as expected.

Works fine with the iPhone 3GS (IOS4) and supports multi-pairing (I've paired both my iPhone and my Nokia to it at the same time) although the RCD-510 only displays the first paired phone in the Phone screen, you can take calls with either.

Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP) works although the sound quality isn't as good as the MDI connection. I suspect thats more the iPhone than the Bluetooth module. There is no bluetooth audio control from the dash though on the iPhone, you can only start/stop/select tracks from the phone itself and the display just says "Bluetooth Audio" without any further details. I'm not sure whether this is VW's half arsed attempt at building Bluetooth Audio or whether its the iphone (although the iphone does support this on a friends Sony headunit).

The phone does get confused though with MDI connected and Bluetooth turned on and when you play music through MDI you get no sound. A workaround I found was to let the phone connect via bluetooth to the car and when its finished connecting I then plug in the MDI - works fine with either Bluetooth audio or MDI audio that way.

What might be a good alternative is the Dension Gateway Five (http://www.dension.com/index.php?pageID=291" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and it provides all the features that the Fiscon kit does at half the price (i paid 175 quid for it incl p&p from Germany). I'm having mine installed next week, will get back with an update once it's in place.
Candy White 1.4 TSI 160 - DSG, ACC, 18" Interlagos (Euro Premium&Sport packs), Alu Door Sills, Current VCDS Mods Needle Sweep, Cornering Fog Lights, Alarm Chirp, Emergency Break Warning, Dension Gateway 5, sort of..
