RCD510 DAB radio adjusting its own volume
When driving to work this morning my radio, oddly, turned itself up and down a few times. I dont just mean that the volume faded and got louder, but the actual volume bar came up on the screen and i was watching it adjust.
When I started my car, the chime sounded when i turned the ignition, but there were no warning lights on the dash, so maybe it was just a glitch.
Has anyone esle had this? I am hoping it was a one off glitch, but it was quite strange.

Cant say Ive had this but it could be a button being slightly jammed? Might be worth a quick trip to he dealers if it happens again?

The volume does turn itself up or down if you have "GALA" set i.e. volume goes up as you drive faster to compensate for the extra engine noise and vice versa, but the volume bar does not indicate this on mine when GALA is doing it's stuff.

It definately wasnt to do with speed as i was only doing about 25mph. I thought about a stuck button, but it went up and down. I keep an eye on it.

Re: RCD510 DAB radio adjusting its own volume
I think the chime sounding when you turned on the ignition is the telling thing here.
I've had a few of one-off glitches involving the radio (working but no display), the windows (passenger window going up and down periodically as we drove along) and the door locks (locking and unlocking when I started and stopped).
Each of these episodes was preceded by a "chime" from the system when starting up and each was cured by stopping the car, turning off the ignition and removing the key. To date none of these events has happened more than once.
I would guess your volume problems is something similar.

Re: RCD510 DAB radio adjusting its own volume
Resurrecting an old post of mine.
My radio did this again yesterday - some 2.5 years later. It started with the volume suddenly going quiet, then the volume bar came on and the volume went up and down by itself. I tried pressing the steering wheel buttons, vol up/down/mute etc, in case it was a stuck button, but it didn't make any difference. The only time it stopped is when I turned the ignition off and back on again.
My warranty is nearly up, so I will be dropping in the the Dealers to get it looked at.

I stand corrected then. It can happen more than once
Re: RCD510 DAB radio adjusting its own volume
Funny thing those RCD510's - the last one I got on a new car (2011 Golf Match) only lasted a week and had to be replaced under warranty...

My dealer reckoned there was/ is something called a gala setting, or something like that, which wasn't set right.
I'm not sure if he was having me on but guess time will tell.

Re: RCD510 DAB radio adjusting its own volume
Gala is the speed controlled volume. It has a number of settings which allow the volume to increase by different amounts based on the increase in speed. it can also be switched off completely. These settings can be adjusted through the settings menu in the unit.Gilez wrote:My dealer reckoned there was/ is something called a gala setting, or something like that, which wasn't set right.

A forum member (maisbitt) pointed you in that direction in July last year but you dismissed it as not being speed related.

Re: RCD510 DAB radio adjusting its own volume
It isn't speed related, that's why. It was adjusting itself as I was sat stationary on my drive as well as moving.
I take what dealers say with a pinch of salt, as they have told me some classics in the past. They really should know their products inside out, but most don't seem to have a clue.
I reckon it is just a random glitch.

I was reinforcing the fact that Gala is speed related and that the dealer was talking mince, based on your comments.
Mine sometimes has a delay in increasing the volume when I come out of reverse after the parking sensor operation.

Re: RCD510 DAB radio adjusting its own volume
I have an RCD510 is a 10-plate 140 TDI, I dont have DAB, but I saw this problem last week too, it was not the GALA function.
Driving along I could see the red volume bar nudge itself up and down by small increments, i left the volume control on the steering wheel and knob on the RCD510 alone, the behaviour continued. Then one occasion the volume decided to increase to maximum, I think only turning the knob on the RCD510 stopped the problem, if I used the steering wheel controls the volume kept going up once I stopped pressing the volume control down button on the steering wheel, once we turned the knob on the RCD510 it went back to normal.
