Calling all 1.4 122ps owners and Scirocco enthusiasts!!!
I've just ordered a 1.4 122ps. I'm 21 and I loved the style, drive and the fact the insurance and cost were affordable. Not so much the guys on here but the people on the SciroccoNet forum slate the bugger out of it! (none of them own one mind you)
I know there will be a few owners of the model on here and I've got a 3 month wait until mine arrives, can anyone out there restore my confidence in my order and make me feel like I've made the right choice, because at the moment I feel like I've ordered the wrong one?

Welcome aboard Alfie.
There about half a dozen peeps on here with 122bhp.
Here some topics to get stuck in with / help you along with dealing with your dealer ........
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... &start=900" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... &start=300" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... hilit=+122" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Wrong one? Firstly you've ordered a Scirocco
Engine choice, depends what funds /finance situation you've got, thats yours to consider. I don't think you will be dissappointed with the car. But..........
The 122ps has a few things missing in its basic spec. regarding some equipment, you need to balance that off against cost/what you want or go higher up the range. One of the above topics touches on that for you.

good for you alfie!!
people may diss the 122 but it opens the range up to people who can't afford the insurance/running costs/modding possibilities of the higher powered engines. you will get people try to knock you down but just roll with the punches.

If you pick up the current issue of Autocar and flick to the Honda CR-Z review, they have a list of the 5 main competitors on the last page. The 122 is the top rated rival. I think you made a good choice if it fits what you need the car for. We can't all afford or need an R or a 2.0 TSI. You buy what you need it for.

Having read the thread you are referring to I think it was pretty balanced discussion. Pretty equal amounts of those for an against it.
You chose to post once and basically slagged off the forum, who's worse. Those willing to have a balanced discussion or someone who comes on posts once, slates the forum and tells everyone to move over to hear as they offer better support.
So you have posted once on S/Net and twice on here. Hmmm...
Just remember this is the internet and people are allowed to post their opinions, frequently they will differ from yours...
Good luck with the new car when it arrives, the 3 months wait will soon be over (I had to wait 6 for mine to arrive) but it gives you plenty of time to read up.

For the record I am middle aged but I don't live with my mum, I don't drive an R and I certainly don't pay £300 a year for my insurance.
for anyone confused by this statement look on S/Net ;-)

Re: Calling all 1.4 122ps owners and Scirocco enthusiasts!!!
i have the 160bhp version but still the 'baby' at that time.
have faith, because you are paying less for the same 'wow' factor.
if you look around , all cars seems to share something similar, but the scirocco is somehow different, regardless of bhp.
for me, you have made a good choice and lets face it, you are not going to max out that 122bhp on the open road, unless you are that copper who was 'testing' his car on the M54!

We all had to start somewhere. To the untrained eye, it's a Scirocco. Audi released the 150bhp TT a few years back for exactly the same reason - to most it was still a TT!
Good luck to you. But Shadow Blue? I thought you were 21 not 61!

I think he read what was said on your profile --->>>>
Anyway, the most important thing is that you're happy with it. I sometimes get slated for having the diesel 140 but to me it's my pride and joy and as a young driver myself (19) it's a great car.

Re: Calling all 1.4 122ps owners and Scirocco enthusiasts!!!
My 122ps arrived about 2 months ago. I was a little worried as well, because when I ordered it people were saying, oh my god, you should have went for the higher bhp. I ordered the sporty steering wheel, 18" wheels, back window privacy. I am very pleased with it, and cannot complain about the power. Very solid car, I have no complaints and happy with my choice. My dealer told me it would be fine to sell on, when the time comes.

Re: Calling all 1.4 122ps owners and Scirocco enthusiasts!!!
Alfie,
You'll be pleased with it, but you'll soon find yourself wishing you got the 160. That's not to say you should buy the 160, but whatever you get, you'll be hankering for the next one up - human nature! You'll probably be thinking along the lines "the 160 was only £30 a month more, why didn't I pay the extra). You'll get a 160 and after about a year you'll be wondering why you didn't get the 2.0TSI.
I always have lousy timing with car purchases - when I bought a 140PS 2.0TDI GT Golf in 2005, a month later VW announced the 170, which I would've had. I got a 170 18 months later
Same again with the Roc, I get the 140TDI GT, and 2 months later the 170 is available for order. I'm considering changing the car at the end of the year to get a 170, and to escape the VAT rise, but common sense tells me it's mad to change a car at only 19 months old.
Some people with the 2.0TSI/R think the Scirocco is a thoroughbred racer and the 122ps/160ps 1.4TSI and the Diesels water that down, but lets be honest - the Scirocco is a Golf under the skin, albeit a prettier one. There's no reason why VW shouldn't put out a 122PS Scirocco. It doesn't turn heads like it did when they were new out, but it's still a great looking car, and with it's top residuals, it's a smart buy as new cars go.

yeh, couldn't you say you'd always want more power out of any car? I'm sure I'll be happy with my roc
