Car Keeps Stalling
Car: 2.0 GT TDI 138bhp
Import bought from car supermarket based in derby.
I have had the car since Jan 10.
Recently when driving at low speeds the car keeps cutting out.
It has been with the main VW dealer in my area 3 times in the last 3 weeks, they have changed the fuel pump/filter but cannot find whats causing the problem.
The problem I have is that the warranty runs out in Dec 10, not a VW warranty either its a warranty with the supermarket.
Anyone had a similar problems? or ideas how i could fix the problem?
Anyone know where I stand legally when my warranty runs out?
Any help appreciated.

i'm assuming this is a DSG???
also a major note, the manufacturers warranty covers the car for 3 years, this should have been transferred to you on purchase

Not a dsg
No I only have 12 months motorpoint warranty, vw won't get involved because it's an import

just quickly, going off track abit but worth knowing for anyone in the future who is presented with an import (that may or may not be advertised as an import) did they make you aware the manufacturer warranty was basically null & void because its an import? (I'm assuming its an Irish model)

bring the clutch up slower and apply some more revs
But don't reckon you could sell it on in its state would be a bit bad bloke syndrome
Unless you part exchange I don't mind that!

Re: Car Keeps Stalling
Mine stalled on the M25 3 times last Friday in all that heat and major traffic jam. This is after it went in for a jerky take off in stop start traffic. This only happened when the engine was at running temperature. It seemed to be cured after VW reduced the gearbox oil level on instructions from VW Germany. Needless to say it is going back now it's stalling and you cannot re-start it straight away with a DSG, needs to go in park.

Unless motorpoint purchased / PDI'd the car a while back you should have the 2yr European factory warranty.Hell Tel wrote:Not a dsg

The 2 year warranty starts from the point the car was PDI'd by a dealer anywhere in Europe and is not limited in milage.

Re: Car Keeps Stalling
Warranty wise - Bork is right. All EU supplied VWs have a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty from VW themselves. If you'd bought it from a UK VW dealer, you'd get a 3rd year top up warranty if you hadn't exceeded 60,000 miles. You won't have the 3rd year warranty, but years 1 and 2 are covered by VW, which any VW dealer will do warranty work for.
Do you know where your car came from? It may not be an Irish model, it could possibly be a Maltese or Cyprus model as they also drive on the left side of the road (my dad had an imported Maltese market GT Golf which came with everything except the alarm and fog lights - no fog or car crime in Malta).
As for the stalling issue - was the car going through a DPF regeneration when it was stalling? The DPF regeneration will be most noticeable in stop start traffic. You'll notice your car is idling at 1000rpm, not the usual 800rpm, and it may feel a little more powerful than before, but the power delivery won't be as smooth from 1000rpm to 2500rpm. If the car is constantly in town traffic and rarely gets a motorway blast then you could be getting a DPF up to a few times a week.
As a little aside - how many people here are tempted to jump over to Honda/Toyota now they're giving 5 year warranties? Will VW have to do the same soon to compete? I haven't been plagued with warranty issues on my Roc, but my previous 4 VWs have cost VW a lot in warranty work. I don't think it would cost VW too much to give a 5 year warranty - most major components that will be trouble free within 3 years are unlikely to fail at 3-5 years old.

Re: Car Keeps Stalling
As mentioned above, if the car is sourced in the EU, i think you should be pretty well covered. Give customer services a call.
On another note, with regard to the problems, the place where you purchased it from should be sorting it for you. They sold the car to you, and your contract is with them and it is there responsibility to rectify it. Have a read up on the Trading Standards website, it is all on there. Make sure you write, recorded delivery, to the place where you purchased it expalainign the problems. I would also confirm, in writing to them, anything you discuss with them on the phone or in person and keep copies for yourself.

Re: Car Keeps Stalling
Finally got an answer today on the car.
The dealer have agreed to refund the the cost less 7 months wear and tear, which equates to circa £1800.
Ordered another Scirocco today.
