early delivery?!

Post by shammy »

Hey guys...I ordered my Roc on 1st May 2010 with Leicester VW, with an estimated delivery of around 10th Sept 2010. However this morning I received a call from the saleswoman, who said the car is due delivery to the UK on 7th July (next week!!).

Now, with a September delivery I would be getting a 60 plate car and having discussed this with the saleswoman just a week earlier, I opted for the later delivery - simply for the reason of getting a "newer" car.

Has anyone here faced a similar scenario? Do you think I have made the right choice? I mean don't get me wrong, the sooner I get my car the better!! :)

I guess the question lies in terms of where is the car kept whilst I wait?! I may go back to VW to query this tomorrow...

Let me know what you think! :D

Think the car will be kept in storage at the dealership. So you can at least go and see it when it arrives till Sept.

What ... and not show it off throughout the summer ...???!!!

Eat some road, before the rain makes a complete mess of it EACH AND EVERY time you take her out :grumpy:

I'm waiting for a call from my Dealer ... in fact, I'm not even waiting, I'm pursuing him! I called in with him today as I'm pretty confident my car was dropped off at Sheerness earlier in the week and has to make the trip to Northern Ireland - ASAP as far as I'm concerned!

As I stand by the phone......... :D

I would collect it now you going to have the nice weather/light nights to play with it, the nicer 10 plate, nobody is going to know what a 60 plate is when it first comes out and with little or no stock around would the dealer use yours to demonstrate to prospective purchasers??

I'm in exactly the same position with my second Scirocco. Ordered 1st May, due into dealer next week. If it was only a couple of weeks to the new registrations I would wait, but at 8 weeks I'd rather just take it now.

We are in a similar position (should be ready in the next couple of weeks). We did think about waiting for a 60 plate if it came sometime in August but really would rather be driving it around.

You might want to wait for the "new" plate - but in three or five or whatever years' time, will a couple of months really matter to resale value? Also, your car is going to be sat in storage somewhere with the possibility of bird droppings eating into the paint (baked on if we have more sunshine?) until August when it will get a wash and brush up.
When we got our Beetle, it had a minor seagull goo mark on the leading edge of the roof line. Dealer only spotted it under showroom lights the day before delivery so we had it for a couple of weeks, then it got whisked away for remedial action (and a damn fine job they did too).

OR if you're lucky it will sit inside the showroom, locked, and the exterior will be brushed lovingly by seven year olds with sticky fingers (or a handbag or zip from a leather jacket...)

OR it might get taken out on trade plates by some heavy footed nutter that goes against your preferred method of running in

OR something else 'orrible happens to it

Alternatively (am I making a persuasive case yet?)

You say "Stuff it" and follow the good advice of all these other folks, get it ASAP and drive around with a huge grin on your face, knowing that you've got what you've been waiting for.
(If the budget permits it, shell out a small amount at DVLA Select for an obviously "old" plate and then no-one will know how new it is or isn't).

My order was placed in February with the stipulation that I had to have the car before September. Yeah, said the dealer, no problems, July at the latest. I took delivery on 30th April and have not looked back since.

Get it, enjoy it !

wow, some pretty one sided responses there!! Well i think you guys have persuaded me, especially Deagol...so thanks for that! You're probably right about the resale value having a minimal impact in 3-5 yrs based on the car being just 2 months newer...

I think I will make a visit to the dealership tomorrow :)

Hi, yes it probably would be best to give the dealer a call, because i don't think they will keep the car in Germany. It will most likely get shipped and stored at the dealership, but whether or not it is stored away from view is something you will need to find out.

As for my car, i called VW after my last post on here and it is due to arrive on Friday 30 July 2010!! Less than 2 weeks away, i can't wait!!
