I'm confused
Called my dealer today. My car apparently is at checkpoint 5, whatever that means?! But he still goes on about how 2 weeks in July there wont be any delivery of new cars even though when I called VW they said the Scirocco was not affected. He says its to do with the transportation system. Does he not want me to have the car ASAP for some reason or does anyone else no anything about this? He says to expect the car beginning to mid August because he on holiday beginning of August .

Re: I'm confused
Checkpoint 5 (final quality checks) means the Scirocco is built and it will be finished and out the factory tomorrow evening.
Cookstown, County Tyrone ??
It may be put aboard the ship Emden for port of Emden, then either shipped to Dublin or Cork without possibly leaving the ship which adds about 5 days extra on the port of Emden arrival date ie. .
See sailings - Latest on the Emden.
I doubt the Emden will go to Dublin or Cork, more likely after calling at port of Emden, the ship will sail for Santander direct.
(I've put a reminder in for myself to check the Emden's next port call after port of Emden.)
So to save unloading/loading at the port of Emden, it may be loaded onto the African Highway due at Setúbal 8th/9th July and will go to Dublin or possibly Cork with your Scirocco after calling at the port of Emden. Arriving in Dublin or possibly Cork around the 16th July.
The African Highway sailing schedule hasn't been posted yet for leaving Setúbal on 8th/9th July.

I looked back through your posts.
" I'm meeting one car saleswoman in Cookstown tomorrow afternoon" lol
One of the two ships listed then Emden or Galicia if it happens.

Consdiering the ships available, it will be on the UK dockside either in Sheerness or Grimsby by mid July latest. Rest is down to your dealer to shift and PDI it.

Re: I'm confused
This has come straight from my dealer to try to clarify things. Anyone else heard of this?
On Wednesday 14th July the system that VW uses will be shutting down
completely and their new system will resume on Monday 26th July. Because
of the complexities of this it's not a simple job of shutting down at a
given time, as I'm sure you can appreciate. We will start to ramp down
our system from the previous Friday.
During the shut down period we will not be able to see where any car is
in the country.
The shipping company will still ship cars from Germany and will be held
at port and deliveries to dealers will start again a few days before we
are due to go live again on the 26th.
As shipping of any car from Germany from time of build is normally 2-3
weeks we anticipate that your car should arrive with us during this
period but there is no guarantee of this and we will not be able to find
this out until the system is live again.
When the system comes back on we will have to ramp up our systems again
and until then we will not know whether they are working correctly which
is why we are not anticipating any deliveries to customers until the
very end of July but more likely early August. It's not a simple matter
of just handing over a car as the registration system with the DVLA will
need to be working correctly in conjunction with Volkswagen and
ourselves.
So dealer says no but VW customer services says yes I can have it. Pretty annoyed really.
Regards

Re: I'm confused
Mate its all very confusing.
Ive been told by the leasing company im going through that they have spoken to the dealer and been told build week 28, with an estimated delivery date of end of july. Now as much as id love that to happen, i just cant see that being the case....
Ive asked for a rough breakdown of the itinery, no response as yet....

Re: I'm confused
Yea I know what you mean. My dealer not committing to any date. He said possibly before the VW shutdown but I reckon I have to be super lucky and as I called VW today and they said it awaiting shipment. So not sure if it made the ship today or not, otherwise the next one is on the 5th and due in Sheerness on the 12th! So according to my dealers info I won't be getting it for a while still. Ridiculous really!

Re: I'm confused
I had a similar issue when I they delivered the wrong car. My car that I was part exchanging was needing a service, running out of tax and, like you would of got less.bleedsoff wrote:Yea I should go for Sept reg, but my car tax runs out end of August and due service beginning Sept. So they gave me the wrong car as a "loan" Scirocco car while my proper car was built - and then took my old car away.
I know my situation was slightly different - but sometimes if you fight your corner you can get discounts and stuff - if it makes sense

Hi Bleedsoff! I think mine and yours are same build week. Latest update was that they are huddled together on the dockside waiting to be shipped to the UK. The sales manager at VW in Belfast told me the same about the sytems going off line whislt a pan eurpoean comptur upgrade was put in place. They are therefore going to be blind until the sytems are back up and running. He said late July at the earliest and early august at the latest.
I had to go into another VW garage to just look at one today....sooo looking forward to eventually getting it!

Re: I'm confused
Thanks for the update. VW must be cracking up at all the calls we put in to them! I can't believe it doesn't just have a sticker on it saying this one needs to go to Belfast "post haste"!!! It's a company car, so not really fussed about the new plate as we don't have that issue over here, I just know it will be IIG and 4 numbers. We can choose where we get it registered.bleedsoff wrote:Yea called up VW this morning my car is to be put on the ship this friday arriving in the UK on Wednesday.
