How long from the factory to the UK

Post by roscom »

Ordered my new Scirocco TDI 170 GT on 26/4/10. Initially expecting to have to wait until August for it.

Just spoke to the dealer who said that the car has been built, and is just waiting on a boat.

Anyone got any good estimates to how long that'll take..? Hoping to have it by the end of the month. Typical, I was prepared to wait until August, but now I know its on its way I want it now. :)

dealers tend to say 3-4 weeks between finishing build to the car arriving with them to err on the side of caution, as your car is awaiting a ship all the information you require is here on what ships should be sailing from the factory to the uk.
hope that answers your question, when you get your hands on it please post pictures in the delivery room section

3-4 weeks? - that is being cautious - that would be half the time taken from order to delivery for mine! - it arrived at the dealer on the Tuesday and I collected it on the Friday and I thought that was pretty slow (which as far as I could work out was just under 2 weeks from the end of the build - my previous two cars (Vauxhall and Mini) were collected in the afternoon after they arrived at the dealers in the morning. Generally I found the whole delivery process with VW was pretty slack compared with other makes.

Grampa,
Trix is referring to factory finish in Portugal to at the dealers in the UK. Factory to on ship 1 day to 2 weeks wait, sail for 3 days, 2 days to 2 weeks for dealer to have it transported from UK docks to dealership & PDi. There have been instances of 3 weeks I know of from UK docks to the dealership I know of, usually the smaller UK dealerships.
[Mine was as below, 6 days factory to dealers and further 7 days to PDI and handover at my request. I could have had it on the 8th day instead of the 13th..]

- If is a absolutely fresh order at the factory to delivery at the dealers it's more like 14 to 18 weeks. There's a lot of variables that influence.

- If its a "stock" car the dealer has already on order and suits the customer's requirements, the it can be shorter duration than the 14 to 18 weeks in total that the customer sees.

- Or the dealer does a swap with another dealer within the parent company's order pool.

The best I've had over the years I ordered Mk2 Sciroccos was 11 weeks in total for a factory fresh order.

Your 8 weeks is quicker than most and may be the last I've listed above (dealer swap) to overcome the embarrassment with your order mix up. They've been lucky somewhere.?????

Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory
23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,
29 Oct'09 at dealers
Driving 4th Nov. Sorted!

No - from a totally different dealer - the one that messed up couldn't be bothered to try anything to sort it out and simply told me it would be at least another 3 months, they were told what they could do with the order - the dealer I re-ordered from (found via the excellent mycarquotes.com but with a remit to find quickest delivery rather than lowest price) had the car built to my spec and reckoned my timescale was about what they normally reckoned on. Local dealer told me 'at least 5 months', but their whole attitude was, 'we don't really want to go to any hassle to sell you a car'.
So 2 months, 3 months and 5 months quoted from different dealers - heaven knows how VW's system works.

Some dealers may have a policy of keeping a decent number cars on factory order covering common specs to reduce apparent lead times, or even holding stock. Particulary if they've got a route to offload unwanted stock/orders such as Internet car brokers or major lease fleets.

My brand new toy is here. Scirocco arrived at dealer this afternoon, and I pick it up at lunch time tomorrow.

Not bad timing considering what the original estimate from the dealer was.

26/4/10 Ordered with a lead time of August.
10/6/10 Was told by the dealer my car was sitting at the dock waiting on a boat, so I estimate build week as 22 or 23.
14/6/10 Arrived in the UK. Estimated based on the boat I think it was on.
16/6/10 Arrived at dealer.
17/6/10 Pick it up, with my checklist from this forum in hand to check it all out.

Now all I need to figure out is how I am going to sleep tonight.

Yihaaa i'm now the happy owner of a salsared 2,0TSI DSG

Well, here's my story:

I was told build week would be week 23 a couple of days prior to ordering, but upon order confirmation that was rescheduled to week 25.

Ordered my Rocco sunday may 16. (last day of week 19)
Build day was june 24. (week 25 as promised)
Then the dealer lost track of it until July 12.(week 28) when it went throug Danish customs.
Releasede for the final shipment to the dealer, from the danish VW importer on July 14.
Deliverede to me on friday afternoon, July 16. Just in time for my summer vacation :)

So total time from ordering to delivery was 9 weeks.
Total shipping time from factory to danish custums was 17 days.

I'm not sure about the route, but i'm pretty sure it was shippede by boat from Setúbal in Portugal to Emden in Germany.
How it got to Denmark from there i haven't been able to find out.
Anyone with inside information about this?
