Is this a gearbox problem?

Post by thelefth »

Hey guys...took my car from vw yesterday after an oil change and today i noticed this:

The car when in neutral(manual gearbox) has a constant clicking noise and when i rev the car it follows. When i press the clutch i hear nothing.

Doesnt have to do with engine oil change i suppose. Please advice :(

If the noise stops when you depress the clutch this would probably indicate a fault within the gearbox itself. I test drove a car for my son a few weeks ago that had a whining sound. This disappeared when the clutch was depressed (I thought it may have been the thrust bearing) so I contacted a mechanic friend who said if the sound disappears with clutch depressed its a gearbox problem.

I'd run it into the dealers and bring it to their attention

My 1.4 has also developed a clutch/ gearbox noise. When accelerating the gearbox grates and the clutch is very juddery. Dealers say they know there is a problem but don't have a fix yet
