Daft Question - About Ipod
Hi, I have a really daft question, so forgive me.
My new Roc arrived a couple of weeks ago, does my Ipod automatically work in the car? I didn't get in extras for ipod. Can you let me know (keeping it basic!) what I do to plug in my ipod and get it to work.
Thanks
K

Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
It tends to work on newer generation ipods. Which one have you got?
Your dealer should have given you the ipod cable. It looks like this
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/5210/img0631n.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It plugs in to the same connector you use to sync it on your computer. Then it will show up on the display in the 'media-in' section with all your playlists and tracks available.

Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
Hi K
not daft at all, you should have recieved an ipod lead with the car which goes in the mdi connection in the armrest, like this if you didn't go back & shout at your dealer, if they say you should be paying for it tell them to try again. you should have received the ipod lead as above & usb lead (identical to the ipod lead but a usb connector on one end) they do not arrive with the car from the factory but are added from the parts department at PDI & you should NOT be paying for them as they are included in the price of the car.
Now go get the lead off that pesky dealer of yours & listen to some music!

Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
I have found a gadgie on youtube and although a Septic has talked through some basic steps on things like connecting an i-pod. you can use 'vw sales guy' as your search option when in youtube and type 'i-pod connection' when you have his videos page up. very simple to follow and there are lots of other tips on there too. worth a try.

Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
Yeah I checked, the lead is there, but when I connect my Ipod it says something about not a valid connection or something similar. Does it work with all ipods? Is there another lead I need to get to make it work?
Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
as per kev's question above what generation have you got?
you should only be using the vw ipod lead (not the usb lead & then your apple to usb lead - just in case as it has been known)

Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
Hi, I am not sure about the version of my ipod, but the cable I have in the car doesn't plug straight into my ipod, I used my usb cable (the one I use to hook ipod up to laptop). I looked on the youtube as suggested, and I believe I have the wrong cable, I should have the 000051446C which goes from the car straight into Ipod.
Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
yes!! you need to use the vw cable as per the pics we posted above! i'm guessing you dealer didn't give you one so as per my first post go & speak to them & get one (you should NOT be paying for it as it should be include with the car!)

I don't mind going and filming exactly what's in the car if it'll help.

Re: Daft Question - About Ipod
It should be an ipod specific cable ...not the USB one they throw in the glovebox.
Also i had problems connecting an ipod touch until i realised there was a software update from apple.
Always check you have the latest software for your ipod,
