Each dealer will be different, but the bottom line is that for everything you buy on a credit card, the retailer will only see 97% of the money (95% if you use AMEX, which is why some places won't take it).
Most dealers are happy to take the hit on a £500 deposit, but won't want to lose £600 to the card company on a £20,000 purchase. If I had a £20,000 limit on my credit card, i'd probably be in the market for a Porsche Cayman or a TT RS, not a Roc.
