CRACKED WHEEL!!!!!!

Post by flippervw »

DISASTER!!!!!!! After a trip out last night I returned home, when i returned to the car this morning the nearside front tyre was flat.... oh deep joy!!!
after inflating the tyre I heard the air escaping from the valve area. looking under the valve around the wheel edge (not the area in direct contact with the tyre) the small piece of alloy that forms around the valve . to my horror there is a crack about 10mm long right through the wheel....!!! :eyepop: :fall:
I didnt recall hitting any large holes, and there is not a mark on the rim...
now starts the fun I will let you know how it goes with VW. This wont be the only one!!!
I know BMW recalled some of their wheels recently due to similar damage...
( its the 18 inch as standard on Gt Models..)
Anyone else had similar???/

I would imagine that this will be a clear warranty claim and the dealer will be happy to change it, especially are there is no damage to suggest it was a potphole. Take it easy until you get it changed as it could get worse.
I can rely on my car, it's my Roc!!!

OK, not totally on topic, but when I got my Golf GTI years ago, I suffered a puncture within seven months of buying from new. I couldn't shift the wheel nuts and neither could Mr VW Assist man. Turned out that the steel collar had "bonded" to the alloy wheel. One hammer & chisel later, VW Assist still couldn't get the wheel off the hub, so it was a suspended tow to the dealer.

One knackered alloy later, the puncture was fixed but the dealer instantly promised a replacement alloy to keep the car pristine. On this basis, I agree that this will be a warranty job.

Good luck in getting the right result.
