Free Unwanted option that I want shot of...
...picked up my car last week and very happy with it except for a revolutionary extra VW seem to have installed on my shiny new roc.
It seems that Star Trek cloaking devices are science fiction no more and now coming as standard on all 1.4TSi Sciroccos.
Had the car a week and already:
Moron #1] Goes to reverse park in a space on a road near where I live, as Im halfway through the manouvre the land rover in front flicks its lights on and sticks it straight into reverse and starts backing in towards me. Rear light is 6 inches the other side of the driver window when he stops.Only an instinctive whack on the horn alerts moron that even though he was sat in the land rover for a few minutes its not impossible that someone might pull up and park behind his vehicle.
Moron #2] This morning, 7am, pulls out of side turning into a normal road, cyclist in front of me car coming opposite direction wanting to turn right - Motorbike (which it must say in the highway code somewhere that they have the right to overtake anywhere and at any point on any side of the road) tears up behind me nearly hitting me because I was doing 20 behind the cyclist as it wasnt safe for me to overtake cyclist because of car coming the other way there just wasnt room. Motorbike then horns me and rips by shaking his head. Cloaking device maybe only partially on.
Moron #3] 8:45am M40 services. Helps myself to a nice Costa coffee and gets back in the car to leave the car park. Driving through car park and again cloaking device clicks on, gbig crap green people carrier reverses out of space into the side of my car as I drive through the car park, only a hearty horn hit and a big lead foot on the throttle gets me out of his way in time.
I had a Corsa for 6 months prior to my new VW and never seemed to have this problem - im not a bad driver, so I just cant understand this. Anyone else got cloaking device installed?

It seems as if you are just being particularly unfortunate with the bad drivers you are encountering at present.
I would have thought that the permanent driving lights would have helped make your car more visible to other road users, but obviously not.
After a year of driving one it is not something I’ve experienced (well no more than I did with any of my previous cars).
Fingers crossed that’s you got your bad luck over and done with early on and can enjoy care free motoring from now on.
I would have loved a shot of your cloaking device over the weekend right enough.
A kid decided to rub his muddy hands up the side of my car (thankfully nothing a run through the car wash did not cure), more of an inconvenience than anything else.

That's funny cause I have an unwanted option too, Stealth Mode . Every so often I seem to be invisible to other peoples radar, even though I have DRLs on and my car is Candy White

The DRLs are a pain. So many people have pulled out on me from a side road, making me jump on the brakes. One time it happened and I was 6" off their back bumper when I stopped, and we were stopped at some roadwork lights. I jumped out and asked the driver what the hell he was doing - he claimed that i'd flashed him out. I suppose it's the fault of the DRLs - driving with them on, going over a small bump and it might look like a flash to someone else.
For the "stealth mode" issues, mabye with the car being a bit lower, it goes unseen by the taller cars that are in reverse, although it isn't that much lower than a Golf.

I think mine has that too . First time out to the seaside a seagull shat on the car.
(by the way seagull crud has sand in it) when cleaning the crud / concrete mix off the 100 mile black paint work. 5 mins after it was deposited . whoopee nice tiny scratches all over the area!!!!!!! note to self . take a shotgun out to the seaside
or be very carefull removing sand laden poop....
Then a week later, a plum in a car park designed for smart cars I should think , as the spaces are so damm narrow. put a deep one about a foot down the panel....Oh I love car parks....
I must admit people do tend to get up close to the rear to see what it is...

I think the battery in my cloaking device is running out...no near misses since my original post. Although yeah agree with the above - I do regular runs on the M4 and M40 and often find cars coming up having a look then dropping back into the middle lane!
Re: Free Unwanted option that I want shot of...
I appear to have gained an unwanted passenger but it appears invisible to me... pretty much everytime a car has passed me over the last week at least 1 person in the car has stared long & very hard at my front bumper corner/headlight area.
I guess I must have a gremlin hanging on there or something but I certainly can't see anything

I was ona main road approaching some lights and stopped and there was a guy sat in a Rover at a side turning to the left waiting to get out, my front bumber pulled level with his car and he suddenly was straining forward to get a real good look at my front left bumper...was really odd!

Funny you should say that; I've had the same thing happen too. One guy in a workman's yellow jacket was staring at front of the car - then me - so hard that I had to check I'd not forgotten to do up my blouse. Seriously, he'd done a full 180 degree turn in the passenger seat. I suppose there aren't that many Rocs in the SW and South Wales, especially when compared to the Midlands area where there seems to be one every half mile or so.trix wrote:I appear to have gained an unwanted passenger but it appears invisible to me... pretty much everytime a car has passed me over the last week at least 1 person in the car has stared long & very hard at my front bumper corner/headlight area.
I've now got it into my head that there's some kind of Twilight Zone beastie leaping around the front of the car when I'm not looking, and that everyone else can see it but me... Cheers!

A similar thing happened to me on Monday in the Eastbourne area. Was approaching a roundabout when a car came alongside, the passenger had a good look, but seemed to be paying particular attention to the front offside corner of the car. The car does seem to get plenty of looks, but this was one of the most obvious so far.
