Have you tried doing a full restore on the iPhone? Personally I don't think the phone is the problem but it's best to eliminate as many things as possible. Just a thought, but have you tried making sure that you've got the latest firmware for your RCD 510?
If you do attempt to restore, then test it afterward before reloading your backup. It could be something in your personal settings that are causing the errors.
I'd have thought that we'll see a minor software revision from Apple before June so maybe this will fix your problems.

The only problem using the brodit mount etc it clutters the dash and makes it look like an early 90's car kit... Personally I went with the buy an ipod nano for £138 and leave it under the arm rest. My iphone stays in my pocket...
