Odd engine management update - spoke too soon!

Post by Tawny »

My June '09 2010 Roc had its first service a couple of weeks ago - nothing unusual, just oil and filter changes at 10,000 miles. I'd mentioned that the boot didn't "pop" completely and you need to have a hand on the lip to open it - they checked and said it needed a new boot lock and it went back on Tuesday for fitting. Easy collection and delivery from friendly Ridgeway VW blokes at my office. I happened to mention that I'd like someone to just check the slightly rough running I'd experience in the last fortnight or so - as they were driving it to the dealership for me, they could see what they thought.

I got a call later from the service exec saying that a technician had taken it out on a road test, and it wasn't my imagination, he agreed that it wasn't running quite right. It had been hooked up to a diagnostic machine - standard these days of course - and "VW HQ" had advised a "software management update". That was done and all was fine he said. Warranty work so no charge, and they washed it - bargain.

All I can say is, WOW, what a difference! I'm not sure really how long I'd been driving it around while it was below par but the difference now is incredible! It's back to how it was when I first took delivery - like it constantly wants to take off, smooth, responsive - ultimately fast - like the flippin' 2.0 TSi is supposed to be! I don't get much chance to drive it hard - either I'm on my half hour commute on icy country back roads or on the motorway, so I think it's been a gradual problem perhaps.

I'm glad I mentioned it. Has anyone else had a similar situation? I wonder if the dealer should have mentioned it to me before - a recall issue perhaps? Should it have been picked up at the service? :?

Anyway - I'm an even happier owner now. :D

glad you're happy Tawny, i've been feeling like mine isn't running 100% at the moment so might get them to check when I need something else doing. its certainly not something I can recall anyone else mentioning..

MY 1.4 has been feeling a bit weird lately too... seems like power is a little missing under 3k rpm

Dammit - power is back but feels like I'm driving on a pebbly road the whole time now. Need to put it in "comfort". Could be suspension problem. Feels like a slight vibration coming from the wheels the whole time.

Called the dealer -got the usual crap about no loan cars until 2012, and they squeezed in a collection for me next Thursday.

Hmmm, not so happy owner now. Want to get this sorted out. :?
