please help. Mini Cooper S or Scirocco 2.0 GT TSI DSG

Post by Madasafish110 »

Please advise me, I am going mad

Last August I purchased a 58 plate Scirocco 2.0 TSI DSG GT

We (work wise) moved premises and ond day as I was leaving work, i noticed in the sunshne that my wing had a very small dent, which upset me.
I had it repaired and decided to walk to work but i was so obsessed with the car, i was fightened to leave it, it just seem to attract attention.

I decided to sell it, and it sold within a couple of days.

I now have a Mini Cooper S june 2009 model Convertible, top of range all toys etc except sat nav.

Monday, I got it into my head to get another Scirocco 2.0 TSI GT DSG, I just dont know what to do, I know I am going to loose money again. I cant believe how much you loose changing cars so soon.

But my question is, what would you do ? :?

I have been offered a choice of 2, 2009 models green and the other Black, Green has Sat Nav and all the toys, Black no sat nav, both leather seats, green down London, Black in yorkshire. I live in yorkshire

Money is an issue, but feel as though I want to go back, It was nice the one I had.

Both the Mini and the Roc are cars that do hold a higher percentage of their original value but even so you are still going to stand a loss especially if you are talking cars bought from new.
Sounds to me that that you are a bit of a contrary character and if you did get another Roc I wonder how long before you'd be thinking of changing again.
If money is a significant issue then I think you'd be best sitting on it until you absolutely know for sure.

i just think the Mini is a woman's car. Its not a bad thing don;t get me wrong. Business wise its a brilliant product with a captive market.

the mini style had also been out for a few years, while the scirocco feels fresh on the road.

Small dings and dents like this can and do happen to any model of car. Deciding to restrict your use of the car as a result is a little extreme in my eyes.

Seriously, you were worried about the attention that a Scirocco may get and so you swapped for a convertible? I just don't see the logic there.

I'd say go with the roc. I presume the 2009 mini is the one with block from peugeot 207 in it rather than the older one that had a power steering pump that was louder than the engine. So long as that is the newer one then don't rule out keeping it. It depends how much money your gonna loose?

I owned a mini cooper convertible 54 reg when i decided that i wanted to change.
It was between the mini cooper s (not convertible) and the scirocco. I booked in to test drive them both, mini first and then to vw. Anyway unfortunately the roc sold so i took the mark VI gti out instead.
Took the mini out, great car. Went to VW and i was grinning from ear to ear the whole time! Appreciate this was the golf and not the roc but it's the same engine as the roc i've got on order. I ordered the roc and then took that out and i'm certain that i've made the right choice.
Think i'm in a good position to judge between the two and i think you were nuts to sell the roc. Only you can answer what to do now to be honest.
Was it purely the worry of damage or was there more to why you sold the Roc? Have a serious think back, was there anything that bugged you? This will still be there if you get another one.
Good luck!

I know what you mean about paranoia regarding the roc.

I too suffer a bit from that. I'm cured though now. You see my girlfriend lives on one of the roughest council estates in leeds! I haven't had so much as a sniff of hassle so far. In fact plenty of nice cars on that estate, porches, mercs, audi's mitsubishi evo's (aplenty!).......it's all that benefits money...gotta spend it on summat!

The mini is deffo a girly wuss's motor.....roc everytime.

I was parked up outside the local porn shop today and there was a porsche 911 outside . . . .guess which car was getting all the admiring glances? it wasn't the porsche.

I appreciate all your comments.

I am going with the Viper Green 2.0 GT DSG TSI 09 plate

The mini is nice, but even I think, i made the wrong choice.

Thanks for all your comments. I only got rid of the other after the dent.

There are a lot more on the roads these days, as to last august.

Cheers all

Female, or unsuccessful/junior estate agent or male hairdresser then keep the mini, otherwise choose the roc.

Car damage is not a reason to pick one car over the other - they can all be dented (unless the other car in the equation is a Landrover Defender).

My wife has a mini cooper s convertible and I have scirocco 170 tdi. They are very different cars. I think the scirocco is a more mature car but that could be the tdi engine. For me, when I have the choice, it is the scirocco everytime.
