Disappointing News or What!

Post by gavmac89 »

So I was due to take delivery of my Roc tomorrow when I got a phone call at lunch time today and my dealer left a message on my phone saying "sorry but we are not goin to be able to deliver tomorrow as a notice came out saying that all Rocs that are due to be delivered require more checks. She said that they were waiting on a bulletin that would notify dealers what checks have to be done, the bulletin was supposed to be handed out on Friday so hopefully its here today"
Not much I can do to be honest but I had my day off work all booked and had organised to do one or two things tomorrow. My dealer was really good and got a courtesy car sorted straight away since I had already paid for the car. I think after what has happened with Toyota other manufacturers are going to be more cautious. Hopefully I get it at some point this week and that nobody else has to go through this.

I was watching a French motoring program on Sunday morning and they said that as well as the Toyota recall both Honda & VW had also launched recalls

But they didn't say what for

I've had a shufti on the net but all I can find for VW is a recall in Brazil

Looks like our beloved Sciroccos are not impacted :)

Anyone else know any different ?

whilst not toally relevant as Gav's in a manual, to answer Nobby's question, there has been a VW recall:

Although I had asked the dealer what would have happened if the car had been delivered then this bulletin came out and she said that a letter would have been sent out for me to take it to my nearest VW (its being delivered from Leeds) so maybe some people who have just recieved theirs might get a recall notice for something

I got a brand new Polo tonight after just getting rid of my old one on Saturday

Cheers mordred1973, I had indeed seen the thread about the DSG, I was interested because I have one but apparently it only concerns the 6 speed so not mine (yet!)

However, as you said, gavmac89 ordered a manual, so I wonder what the problem could be ?

Be interesting to find out

In the meantime, I hope you get your beastie soon gavmac, you're gonna love it :hyper:

That's got to be really disappointing after you've been counting down the last few days, sorting out time off work and getting your finance etc. set up. Especially after many weeks of waiting for that day.
Hope you get your hands on it soon.

The only reason they dont know anything cause the bloody thing has not even been sent out yet. It was supposed to be sent out on Friday and as each day passes I get more and more pissed of with f**king Volkswagen cause they tell you f**k all! I have said to them time and time again somebody in technical must know what these checks are and instead of waiting for it to land on your desktop try and get it sorted by fax, email or even a bloody pigeon either way i dont care just get your finger out! Its not as if its something major, a suspected fault with the washers, I said to the dealer "well go and jump in the car and see if they work" I still cant believe this has happened especially just being 1 day away from it being delivered! Each day I keep wondering what else they can throw in for compensation, so far I have a tank of diesel and hopefully a first free service I am really going to push them for everything possible

Apology not required I can totally understand you being hacked off. It probably wouldn't be too bad if we didn't have to wait so flamin long for delivery in the first place. Hope you get your car soon.

Hi Gavmac

As my car is due for delivery I've been speaking to my dealers who have still heard nothing at all about a recall so I thought I'd ring VW CS to see if this is something that would affect my delivery. VW CS have told me the Scirocco is not subject of any recalls in the last week. Don't know if your dealers pulling a fast one for some reason.

Hope it's sorted soon

I hope so too! No more news on this rubbish and there is the small thing in the back of my mind that keeps saying "the have damaged it and they are pulling a fast one" on the other hand the dealer told me roughly what the problem was (a suspected washer fault) and then I contacted customer services and they told me the same thing so I dont think it is damaged. My dealer has said that there may only be a handful of cars like this so not every dealer will be aware, I spoke to a dealer in Edinburgh and in Glasgow and they know nothing of it. The only thing that is getting to me the most is that they know there is a possible fault but nobody is passing this bulletin on, its supposed to be coming from Technical at VWs head office in Milton Keynes its not as if its the other side of the world. I think my car has been in the UK for over 2 weeks now and I cant get my hands on it. If this problem was affecting hundreds of cars then it would have been sorted out by now! but because it just seems like its me (there has to be somebody else in the UK going through this problem) they just seem like they will sort it out in there own time! I have paid for the car in full and hopefully somebody on here might be able to tell me if there is some kind of requirement for them to have the car delivered once paid for, I have said I will be looking to get legal advice on this just to try and speed things up a bit

Lancs_Lad i think you will get your car before mine and mine has just been sitting at the dealers gathering dust for the last 2 weeks. A lot has to be said about VW customer service it is without a doubt the worst I have ever experienced and I have said that this will be the last Volkswagen I will own.
I will update this page daily and hopefully have good news soon but not expecting it.

Hi gavmac,

Sorry to hear about your delays, that sucks. Just wondering, is there a chance that your car isn't actually here yet?

It is here it was finished build week 4! still no news about it today and to be honest I feel like I dont even want the car anymore this is just getting stupidly out of hand. How hard is for somebody to pick up the phone, speak to the right people, find out what actually has to be done and then communicate it back to my dealer. I am constantly reassured that the car needs these "checks" carried out by the dealer before they will release it. I am running out of ideas here. Just got a phone call as I have been typing this and the woman from CS said it is only affecting about 34 cars. No words can describe how angry and disappointed I am with Volkswagen!!!!!!!!!!

Ok another update, well not really..... This time a manager from customer services called me back and said that the issue has been escalated and they know what the checks are "quality checks" and to "check the washers" which is fine. When I asked when I could expect it to be sorted she couldnt give me an answer. So they know what has to be done but somehow Volkswagen's lack of communication prevents them from getting it sorted. Its not exactly rocket science to tell a dealer to get a mechanic to go over the car, make sure that there are no problems with the washers and if they are happy with it then great, job done after all thats what they are employed for! So the women is now going to contact me again on Monday and send out a letter in black and white. No idea when it will turn up and now I have lost all trust and respect for Volkswagen in the space of 5 days.

If anybody wants to add their own crap experiences with Volkswagen then please do so because I have also advised them that I will be printing this thread off and sending it to them so they can have a read and understand what people's opinions are and that the Volkswagen Group is just a shambles!

More news on this fiasco. Spoke to my dealer and she said that there are technicians coming over from Germany to have a look at the 34 cars with this problem. Have you ever heard anythin so stupid, I cant believe there isnt somebody in the UK already to carry out these checks! So it doesnt look like I will get the car this week!

Gavmac: I hope they haven't registered it yet. As you're waiting so long for your car, insist that its registered as a "10" plate seeing as you'd only have to wait another week. If they've already registered it and you have a firm contracted delivery date that they've passed, i'd threaten to reject it, unless they can sweeten the deal.

It sounds like a trivial fault if it is the washer system, but if its so trivial then why send VW engineers from Germany? There definitely seems more to this than they are letting on.

VW customer UK services are useless. Any goodwill gestures you get are generally funded by the supplying dealership and not VW UK, but in this circumstance, if VW UK are preventing the dealership from handing over your car then i'd be after some kind of discount or 1st servixce paid for at the very least from VW UK if its not the dealerships fault.

Crap experience with VW (dealerships fault) - £7000 non fault accident damage on a month old VW Golf GT Sport. Dealers approved repair garage took 7 weeks to do a 3 week job, got the car back with a dangerous brake fault, filthy (oily) interior (both went un-noticed at pick up because it was dark with extremely heavy rain), and they stole my unused top up bottle of oil. Got those fixed after complaints and was offered just a free valet from the bodyshop (VW UK customer servces arranged that generous goodwill gesture). I declined the free service because I had no confidence in them doing a good job (as they'd returned the car to me with an oily interior in the first place).

3 months later, I discovered a rusty wheel arch on the replaced rear quarter panel. They'd compromised the galvanisation and put on a very thin layer of paint. No more goodwill gestures were offered as i'd declined the valet, I just got another respray which took a year to start rusting through again. At 18 months old I got shot of the Golf and got the Roc I have now.

I've had plenty of warranty work from the dealerships (VW reliability eh?), and i've generally been impressed how quickly they can get parts - including a new complete cylinder head unit for a 2.0TDI PD 170 from Germany to dealership in 2 days.
2013 - Tornado Red MK7 Golf GTD on order
2011-2013 - Rising Blue 170GT
2009-2011 - Pewter Roc 140GT
2007-2009 - Tornado Red Golf 170TDI GT
2005-2007 - Black Pearl Golf 140TDI GT
2003-2005 - Black Pearl Polo 1.9TDI

The car is already registered, it has a private plate on it so im not to bothered about the 10 plate. Hopefully it does get sorted out this week and they have already agreed to come to an agreement with some sort of compensation, first service for free wouldnt be too bad. I have asked for the checks that they will be carrying out in writing but it certainly does look like it is more than just the washers! Time will tell and when it does come im sure I will have forgoten all about this.
It doesnt look good when you need a lot of warrenty work carried out does say a lot about the quality.

WOOOHOOO! its finally sorted out. Got a call from the dealer saying that the technician from Germany arrived and was looking at the car, an hour later it was sorted. As thought there was nothing wrong with it! Its now coming on Thursday and as compensation they have given me £200 to spend on something. They mentioned the bluetooth hands free which was about £209. All is good in the end!
