Hi All,

I'm hoping to take the plunge soon and purchase a 1.4 TSi and would greatly appreciate the advice of members who've already bought their roc's. Especially any advice on the following -

Are VW dealerships open to negotiation on the price of the purchase car or adding on any extras to seal the deal?
Is the VW PCP (or options as VW call it) option worthwile? I'm thinking about going with this and notice its 9.5% until the end of the month so hopefully won't go up.

Any other advice re buying my roc would be very much appreciated.

not sure on the PCP but dealers are definitely open to abit of haggling it depends how many different dealers you have nearby to play off against each other & whether you are able to walk away unless its the deal you want.

spec up your car on the configurator on VW uk & decide what deal you will be happy with (% discount or extras to be thrown in) & stick to your guns.

You should also get quotes with online brokers like Broadspeed. Print off the results and see if your dealer will match. Also, be prepared to 'shop around' and as trix said, play your local dealers against each other for the best deal.

If you want a good deal at a dealer you need to be prepared to put in plenty of leg(and phone ) work. When I was looking to order mine the best offer I got was from Gilders in Sheffield who offered me about £500 off a 1.4TSI and offered me £5500 on my Nissan. I then searched internet brokers and decided to sell my Nissan privately (got £6000 for it this week!!) and found the same spec car with 7.8% discount through http://www.uknewcars.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm fortunate in so much as we have a 3rd car so we can manage without the Nissan until the Roc arrives but if you're prepared to do the legwork there are some offers out there. I do haveto travel to South Wales to pick my car up but then we'll just make a weekend of it and treat it as a city break.

I can definitely recommend uknewcars as they are one of the few internet brokers that take their fee from the dealer and not the customer as an upfront payment.

Dont forget the What Car target price too - my local dealer matched it without hesitation, as if they dont you can call What car and they'll find you a dealer who can. For me this was a 7% discount at the time.

You might want to take a look at dealdrivers.co.uk too. The website is a bit iffy but the price I will pay when I collect the car will be almost 10% off list. They also seemed pretty clued up on which of their usual dealers had some of their allocation left, so you may also be able to save youself on the wait for the new car.

Hi All,

Just to update you, after a drawn out 2 hour negotiation with my local dealer I secured an excellent deal (armed with the info provided via this forum) and ordered a 1.4 TSI 160 in white with a 6-8 week delivery date. Went for a test drive and wow!! that thing pulls like a freakin train!

FYI the PCP rate of 9.5 expired at end of January and when I asked they quoted me 10.6%, citing the popularity of the car as the reason why I could'nt get a better rate. I declined and decided to go with a personal loan instead which works out far more cost effective and obviously no baloon payment to find at the end!

i take it the 9.5 and 10.6 are interest rates? if so they seem very high. as far as i understand it the VW finance is underwritten by black horse whose rate is lower than that, if you ask for them to do a blackhorse quote it could come out lower.

i tried a VW dealer before i went with my current seller but they were trying to con me by saying the interest rate was 4.2% apr - which is not true as that's the flat rate not apr which works out way more. the dealer i dealt with was citygate in high wycombe - i wouldn't recommend them - i just hope my car doesn't come from there.

Remember these interest rates are on PCP (Personal Contract Plan or 'options' as VW calls it) so will be higher as there is a large deferred amount (baloon payment) that you pay no interest on.

Thanks for your reply. Please tell me or PM me, what loan you went for as from my calculations you would need a 6year loan (cheapest I've seen is Black horse at 7.8%apr) to make the monthly payments less than a PCP, and also reduce the amoount you pay over the term on interest.

Hi Mrk,

For an £11K balance the the PCP payments were approx. £240 pm for 5 yrs then around £9.5K baloon payment. Whereas I could get a £10K loan with Alliance and Leicester over 6 yrs for £199 a month add £1k and have no baloon payment at end. This made the whole deal much much cheaper. For what it's worth PCP with VW may seem attractive with the hook of cashback (as they will only take max 30% downpayment) from your tradein etc, if you add the whole thing up its very very expensive!

Hi Mrk,

Week 10 build, so managed to add a final option (panoramic roof) to my chocies this week. I found that the most difficult thing, deciding what to go for without going overboard. Finally settled on 18" wheels, carpets, rear tints and paonramic roof. Got a great deal on the new car price wise (they were wiling to negotiate as I was armed with broker prices!) so gave me more flexibility.

What about you, when do you get it or are you still to purchase?
