Insurance etc.
Hey guys..
I'm hopefully ordering myself a 1.4TSI Roc soon, so I was wondering if there any other 'young drivers' on here who can share their insurance experiences! Most of the quotes I'm getting range from £850-£2000, do you all fall into that bracket?
Cheers!

Re: Insurance etc.
Thanks!
Yeah, I had the factory fit options vs. modifications debate with a few of the companies that I tried... most said it came down to Manufacturer Specification and said that factory fit options are still specified by the manufacturer so it's all good!
Ah, you have the unfair advantage of being female! I'm young and male so insurance is always going to be over £500 for the foreseeable future :/

yeah sorry, be careful with it & try not to get any claims on your record & just keep going for the no claims bonus' they all help!
i'm with zurich connect who don't have any problem with factory fit options but one broker who I went through with my last car wanted to put the policy up by £250 just because it wasn't standard (ie no options)

23 years old, Male. 5 years NCB, no claims. £415 fully comp, including declaring the car is lowered on H&R lowering springs. Covers factory fit options.
With Admiral MultiCar policy with other members of my family in the same household (4 cars insured in total).
I was charged an additional £80 on top of the £415 once I had my car REVO'ed.

Re: Insurance etc.
that will make all the difference as I presume they base it on all drivers driving all cars.iAmbu wrote:With Admiral MultiCar policy with other members of my family in the same household (4 cars insured in total).
must add mine is with my dad on the policy, add lots of named drivers (parents/gf/siblings/etc especially if they have clean licenses) the insurer assumes they will be driving the car a percentage of the time so add them, even if they don't, because they might have to at some point & you don't necessarily have to tell them..

Re: Insurance etc.
You lot are lucky !!!
I pay £575, and I am 43 with 9yrs plus ncd
BUT, thats declaring all my mods, doing 25k a year but I do live in a very low risk area. I guess the reason for the price is the little CD10 I got in 2005 for a motorbike crash where the filth did me for careless riding (was IAM qualified !!!!). Got 6 points and 450 quid fine, plus paying probably £200 per year over the odds for the next 5 years worth of insurance.
So, if you are thinking of driving carelessly..........don't get caught

Re: Insurance etc.
Always around the £430 mark for 9yrs NCD, no points, but classed as living in a town that is only 8 miles away (with an extremely low crime rating) from Newcastle. If I lived 8 miles the other way, and in a village only 8 miles from Newcastle, i'd pay £250 a year. Postcode makes one hell of a difference.
What I don't get is the fact that I moved from a group 16 Golf GT Sport TDI 170 to a group 12 Scirocco GT TDI 140, and the renewal premium stayed the same!

Re: Insurance etc.
I'm 19 male and do about 20,000 miles a year so you can only imagine what insurance companies think of me! I pay just under £2000 a year for my insurance. Unfortunately I did have an accident which I had to accept liability for when I was 16 on a moped. I have a feeling that this has a lot to do with my higher premium. It should hopefully drop later this year when I'm due for renewal and I no longer have to declare this accident as it'll be over 5 years ago.
Re: Insurance etc.
yes skyblues try Chris Knott & Greenlight both of whom are sponsors & will try their best to do a good deal just remember to quote the respective club name/code (check their sponsors sections) try adding a parent &/or gf to the policyskyblues11 wrote:is there a guy who is advertising here in the forum who could shave 15% off any best quote? i should give him a try, so to keep it below 400 at least!

Re: Insurance etc.
My insurance looks very expensive comparing to some of you. SW London, Surrey, safe area, garage and 700 pounds. I have only 2 years ncd (I lost another 4 years when I moved between countries), I think I will check insurance advertised on this site for next year.

Re: Insurance etc.
Insurance is always down to risk and the perception of risk, there are a few things you can try to reduce risk, thus reducing your premium.
1. Add another person to the policy, this will spread the risk and reduce the premium
2. If you have another car in the house/wife/bf/friend/whatever you have access to another vehicle therefore tick this box (spread risk - reduces premium)
3. Drive another car (sometimes you are asked the question in two different ways, both will reduce the premium, and if you select both it will reduce it twice)
4. Don't waste your money on Legal Cover - all this does is chase your uninsured losses (ULR) if the accident was not your fault - something you can do yourself with ease, or use an ULR agent.
5. Don't pay for courtesy car cover, again this is something that is only provided to you if you have an accident and it is your fault. If it isn't then you can use one of the hundred of Credit Hire firms that exist
All in all the above would save you a substantial amount of money, always shop around, read the small print to see what is covered oh and don't forget to see if you can use a cash back site like quidco to get more cash off.

Re: Insurance etc.
I'm 25 male with 3 years no claims and no points. I've got very low mileage due to job and residential car parking.
I'm halfway through a policy for had to pay £150 on top of the original £220 for my last car. That's for a 10 month bonus accelerator policy.
I've been quoted £320 by more than for when i come to renew in August which i think is brilliant considering my age and the type of car.
i'm currently with Admiral and have a few mates who've got policies with them. seem to be pretty good for young drivers.

Admiral (EUI) are relatively cheap, however the policy isn't as comprehensive as others, even there own - would always recomend you also look at Bell (also EUI) and Elephant (Also EUI). All are the same group but policies are different between them.Scirocco Bhoy wrote:I'm 25 male with 3 years no claims and no points. I've got very low mileage due to job and residential car parking.

Re: Insurance etc.
I agree with most of the points that you make although this one is not always the case. I'm the policy holder for my car and thus the main driver. Adding my Mum on to the policy reduced the price but adding my Dad actually increased it.yellowplum wrote:Insurance is always down to risk and the perception of risk, there are a few things you can try to reduce risk, thus reducing your premium.

Yes adding people can increase, statistically it usually decreases the premium - but I know what you mean.
Oh one insurance company I found of interest (too high for me) but very comprehensive policy was NFU mutual - you get unlimited EU coverage on the standard policy - well that interested me as I travel over to the mainland more than most, and paying a 'nominal' fee doesn't work out cheaper in the end.

Re: Insurance etc.
I would avoid Elephant/Admiral like the plague, they are horrendous when you need to inform them of an incident (regardless of fault). You find out how good your insurance company is when something bad happens! They doubled my premium for a non fault accident on my parked car that was fully paid up by the other party, with no loss of no claims on my part. Robbers! Their legal cover does nothing for the customer, it is just a mechanism by which they shaft the other party for extortionate courtesy car hire costs. Stick to the likes of Esure, Directline if theres only £10 or £20 in it.
Some companies are cheaper than others just because they ask the right questions e.g. some may ask if park your car at work and if your work car park is security monitored (can seriously reduce the risk of anything happening to teh car during the day), or if you work shifts (less cars on the road when you commute) etc.
