I don't know what version they loaded, you'll have to ask them! And I suppose it depends when they loaded it up for you. It's only come out recently.
a little over three weeks ago, that is all! Loaded version 1102 as per my previous post.

I take it 2660 still doesn't have WMA support. Anyone confirm?

I have finished upgrading firmware with no problems, took about 50 mins. Thanks jc74 for the file.

I can now watch DVDs whilst in motion.

I dont think I will make it into the office unscathed tomorrow.

Has everyone that's got voice control working had to use VAGCOM? Do you think a dealer would be able to enable it for me? - it looks really useful.

So to summarise. With 2660 firmwate, to enable DVD in motion you...

1> Car not moving, insert DVD
2> Drive off until you get safety/security message
3> Stop Car
4> Press either voice control button on steering wheel or "i" button next to eject button on radio
5> Immediately after, press TONE button on radio

Would I be right to suspect steps 2 and 3 are probably not needed?

I have found that you still need to do all 5 steps. But will try without and confirm tomorrow.
You get a soft beep after pressing the tone button which indicates this is enabled.

Got stuck in some stop - start traffic this afternoon, and this feature already has provided useful. Watched a bit of Pulp fiction
I have found though if you tweak the volume (or any other stereo input) once this is enabled, the DVD goes back to the security message, so you have to input again when the car is stopped. So I would advise getting the volume setup before and disabling TMC broadcasts.

Tried this tonight, and I can confirm you can do 1 > 4 > 5 > 4 > 5 before moving away to enable DVD playback on the move. On the second press of the tone button you get the audible acknowledgement.

With the DVD playing and the car stationary I just press 'i' and then quickly press 'tone'. I hear a blip sound and then I can drive off without the screen turning off - brilliant! Sometimes I had to do it twice as I didn't quite get the timing of the 'tone' button press right but I can do it everytime now.

Any help on enabling the voice control from my post above? If it can be done with just VAG-COM has anyone had their dealer enable it for them?

Thanks for the info. Is there any chance you can send a link to the exact Transcend SDHC card you have? (perhaps on Amazon) - class 4/6 etc?
I'd like to get one, but want one which will definitely work! (I bought a 4Gb SD which unfortunately didn't)

Thanks

Hi Guys, sorry to repeat question but im a noobie!

I had the RNS 510 retrofitted on saturday and am keen on updating the firmware to 2660.

All i ahve to do is burn the update and insert into car?

What is the likelyhood of bricking the unit?

What about camera locations and speed limiters? do I have to download more updates maps or something? Where from?

Yes, burn iso onto a CDR. You do need to make sure you don't put the key in the ignition, or else when you take the key out, the radio shuts off after a few minutes...
Then switch on the radio via the button, insert the CD. It may be necessary to 'reboot' the unit if you're not quick enough with the insert. You can do this by pressing Setup + eject + info together.

Full instructions here:-

Don't know about bricking since I had no problem, but don't insert the key at all before or during the upgrade process. This will ensure that the unit doesn't turn off halfway through!

Speed limits are automatic with your maps (I guess they must be there already to help determine the journey time). The cameras will need to be added separately (it's it quite a bit of a faff).

Sorry it took me ages researching and lots of trial and error I can't remember how I did it now! So can't do a step by step until I try next time! (Will be with a V5 DVD when I get hold of one!)

Thanks
It is a Class 6 card. I bought it from Memorybits (or something like that, but here is the one (as far as I can tell) from Amazon: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Worked a beauty.... Started copying it to HDD on my morning commute, got about half done, then it autoresumed on my way home and finished the rest off. Top work.

As for the Speed limit display, I have only found one place on my commute where it totalyl failed to recognise a speed limit. It was for a small group of houses on a main road, not marked on the map as a town!

Noobie proof instructions for anyone stupid like me!

Big shout out to jc74 who is the master of all things RNS 510

I just updated it and I did the following:

1) Download the file from the humyo link.
2) Unrar that file (Right click - Unrar - you need WINRAR installed for this
3) Get nero or download a trial version from download.com
4) Put a blank CD-R in (CD's will update faster than DVDs, although you can burn them onto DVDs)
5) Click on burn image and point nero to the image, choose 4x speed for CD OR 8x speed for DVD
6) Wait for burning to finish, unlock your car (DONT PUT KEY IN IGNITION) and fire radio up
7) Insert disc and reset system (SETUP+EJECT+INFO at the same time)
8) follow instructions and wait for 50 mins
9) click done when ok and your system will be working!

Enjoy!

Quick Bug update with 2660, For the last few days the Nav has not been updating my traffic messages (theres always traffic in the UK!) and I had a look on the Navi website and one of the guys mentions to put the map dvd back in, load from temporary and it should fine after that.

I've tried it and it works, but its annoying to have bugs, anyone else in the same boat?

Not noticed that problem. My map is always completely full of traffic symbols everytime I start the car (or very soon after)!

I did get one problem the other night when it thought I was somewhere in Germany 800 miles from my destination, and it took about 5 minutes to sort itself out, by which time I'd taken the wrong turning! Hasn't happened again since though. But I'm guessing that was simply because it couldn't find a gps signal so reverted to the factory default? :?

Just asking, but can someone do a vid of this. I can do it, just it's very inconsistent. My timing is ALL wrong.
