Does the shark fin contain a GPS?

Post by dkfsk »

Hi,
can anyone tell me if the shark fin (thats the danish expression for the antenna on the top of the roof hope you know what i mean), also is a GPS antenna?

If yes, how do I connect it to my RNS510 (how do I recognize the cabel)?

My understanding is that it is the GPS antena, however if you did NOT specify the RNS510 when the car was ordered the sharks fin aerial is a dummy and has no function other that to look good!

Others may know more though as I picked this up from a previous thread somewhere

Only if you have sat nav installed from the factory. On a non sat nav car without the bluetooth it is just a dummy. From what I gather most people just leave the GPS antenna in the dash above the radio.

Is it easy to remove? I'd like to put vinyl on the roof and it would be easier with it temporarily off the car

No, You need to remove the headliner first.

Its not easy to remove but you dont need to remove the headliner (requires removal of side trims etc) , you can just drop the back part of the liner and try to gain access that way.
