A Step Closer to a Roc

Hey Guys,

Visited a dealer today and had a look around the net and my best quote has come from http://www.buyacar.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Configured a Roc on the VW site:

2.0TSI 210 Candy White (Saw a Candy White at the dealers (Not for sale unfortunately!) and thought it looked very smart, especially as it had just been cleaned. Saw a Black and a Silver Roc plus a Salsa Red MkVI Golf but think White would work better for me).

Winter Pack
18 Interlagos
Front and Rear mats

Got Quoted £24,450

Checked out buyacar with the same options and

Got Quoted £23,748!

I've been told to get the Cruise control fitted by the dealer after as it's cheaper and to get the mats off of Ebay.
Checked out the dealer close to my work and he gave a discount from the VW retail price including the 3 upgrades and quoted £24,500 but said he couldn't go any lower and that the quote I found was quite possible the best you'll fnd anywhere (I did get £23,700 from uknewcars.co.uk, but the Buyacar site seems to have caught my attention more, plus they drive deliver to anywhere for nothing!

For those options, is the buyacar price a good deal (It also includes a years tax and registration)? It seems so. The dealer quoted me a 6 month wait, however buyacar put 6-10 weeks! That honestly can't be right can it? Must be a line they use for all car quotes. Anyone dealt with either buyacar or uknewcars as I'm getting approx £1672 discount on the full retail price.

So what's the verdict from you guys? Keep on the search or have I found the right deal?

it looks like a good price Dtsfan2k but 6-10 weeks is absolute rubbish, 16-20 weeks would be slightly more accurate but sadly still on the fanciful side.

any deals on a new car, imo, should include 12 months tax & registration. also I notice you say buyacar drive deliver meaning you won't get to put the first (crucial) miles on your car & you won't know how it has been driven for those miles. driving from next to no miles on the clock is half the fun of getting a new car!

have you tried http://www.broadspeed.co.uk (I used & found them pretty reasonable but depends who you are referred to) or http://www.drivethedeal.co.uk or http://www.orangewheels.co.uk

oh & with regard to the cruise control being fitted afterwards at the dealer, yes its cheaper they even have a part number for it in the scirocco catalogue/price list so don't let the dealer try & sell it to you for anymore than that price as some of them will try & make abit more.

I thought 6-10 weeks was probably just a typo, and this may sound crazy but I would prefer it to be a few months as I'll have then got Christmas and birthdays out the way, plus the thought of having a 10 reg is tempting (But I'd settle for a 59 reg, it's the Roc I'm after ).

As for the delivery, the FAQ says that the drivers are professionals and will drive the car with utmost care. However, I can pick up the car myself from their offices in Chiswick (Not far from mine) for a £500 desposit. This won't mean extra to pay, just something they would need in advance of picking up the car.

I will check out those sites you mentioned too though. You never know what they may come up with. Let battle commence!

One other thing...I've been wondering if the 19's make any difference or whether it's just a personal preference as to the design. I ask because the Panoramic sunroof is an extra £30 on top of the price I would pay if I went for the Luganos. Would it be a prefered extra to go for as I don't think there would be much noticable difference with just an extra inch in diameter. Though a Top Gear review on their site says do not go for the glass roof as it makes the cabin an echo chamber. Anyone know if that's true? Thought it would have cropped up somewhere on the forums.

if its not far from you then what have you got to lose? you will have to pay the balance to take delivery anyway so a £500 deposit isn't anything huge. (& they may say uttmost care but are they in the car every time one gets delivered..?) anyway surely you should be having to put down a deposit to place the order..?

like I said I used broadspeed who were very good, orangewheels were very helpful & drive the deal gave me the cheapest price on my spec but only just (didn't use them as broadspeed had already contacted me, they hadn't & have heard that they keep spamming you for a good while afterwards ).

i've seen one with a pano roof & tbh it was ok but didn't give it anything extra special, when they call it a panoramic roof you would expect it to really open the cabin out & open fully... it doesn't, it just tilts (here is some pics for you to compare the interlagos & luganos http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... lit=lugano

Cool, thanks Trix. I guess with the Pano roof it's like anything - personal preference. I saw a black Roc with the panoramic roof, but didn't see a white one with it. It looked ok, and lets a little more light into the cabin, but as my current car doesn't have one I probably wouldn't be that bothered if I didn't. One person on another forum said it makes the car, but as I said, personal preference. Guess I'd better get out there and find a white one with pano roof!

I checked through drivethedeal and they offered £23,415 which is even lower than the buyacar offer! I guess that's a price that they commit to and don't change (Except perhaps when the VAT goes up but then I'm expecting it, so all prices I find will have it).

So I'm pretty much set on what I want now. Lots of thinking and changing minds! One thing about payment, do I need to commit to a particular way of paying from the beginning? It's just I won't know if I will have the full amount to just buy it until January, but would like to make the order now, due to the 6 month waiting time. Can I just place the order and pay £500, then decide on how to pay for it nearer the delivery time?

Re the Panoramic Roof..... If I didn't have one, my head would be touching the roof and my husband wouldn't fit in the driving seat! It gives just a couple of inches extra headroom and this is why I have to have one LOL

What was the time taken from order to delivery? I guess with them still ordering through a dealer that the time taken will be 16 weeks and above?

I would think drive the deal are the same as broadspeed who referred me to a main stream vw dealer (in my case part of the inchape group) therefore the lead time was exactly the same wherever.

no one has any additional clout to get preferential lead times. the only way to get a reduced lead time is to find a car in stock or find a dealer with a cancelled order that you can take on although if it varies from your desired spec too much it still runs the risk of being delayed should you change things too much.

with regard to your payment question that would be fine, if you decide you need finance near the time you have the internet at your feet to find one. all they want initially is the deposit to secure the order, once the car has arrived they just want paying they don't care how (just as long as its legal ) you have to make the decision on what the best method of payment is for you

I ordered at the end of June and collected it in the middle of October - not too bad at all. It went through a dealer same as any other order.
