iPod Touch 2nd Generation with Version 3

Post by garethphillips55 »

Does this version link up with the MDi and RCD 510? Plugged it in briefly today but no joy. Is it possible to revert to the original version 2 software?

Also, do i need the vw ipod cable? I was given a mdi to usb lead.
The salesman said i need to plug the white lead which connects the ipod to computer into the mdi lead. Yet, device was not recognised.

You should get both USB / iPOD cables with the car, your iPOD will not function properly or at all with the USB cable.

Yes the ipod lead is part of the MDI spec and should come with it. Should really have a sticky about this as the same thing comes up over and over again. Dealers really need to get their act together on this and stop messing everyone about over this damn ipod lead. I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever received one with the car like the should have. I certainly didn't and had to ask the dealer to post it out to me.

I got both - was expecting it to be missing, but both iPod and USB cables were in the glovebox and the salesman even made reference to them both during the handover.

Alternatively if you can't be bothered to argue, you can buy mine, which I don't use anymore. :D

Collected yesterday. I've just come back from saying 'oi, you missed the ipod cable out!'. Sales rep apologised, and told me that he had learned a lesson!! All is now well, ipod cable in car and working perfectly.

More probs now, even tho it plays fine. the rcd 510 doesn't allow me to select albums/playlists etc the majority of the time. It'll just return back to the main 'play' screen. I tried a mates iPod classic which worked correctly straight away. Is there something I can change in the settings? Don't fancy forking out for a new ipod.

Have you tried changing the autolock feature in the ipod settings? - I had the same problem and seem to remember this sorted it out. Given up trying to get my 2nd gen ipod touch working properly now and gone the usb stick route.

Had a problem with it putting a very brief pause in straight after it moved on to the next track. Sure I've read somewhere that others have the same issue. Running software version 3.1.2 if anyone knows how to get cure this niggle.

Thanks.

I'm using a USB now as well. Runs far quicker. Just would be good to use iPod for playlists etc. Will try that autolock feature, cheers.

Tried turing autolock off, but still having the same problems. Can't select albums, playlists etc. Screen going back to 'play' screen. Any more ideas?
