Damaged Paintwork

So here's my short story. I picked up my Candy White last Wednesday and had a good look over it in the show room, at worst the guys who cleaned it did a so so job with the wax. So as soon as I got a chance I put in a fair sized order with Autoperfection and have been waiting for my kit to give the car a proper clean. Just to be clear, the car has NEVER been washed by myself or anyone else since I picked it up.

Imagine my dismay when tonight in the Tesco car park I noticed some almighty swirl marks around my petrol cap, and I mean ALMIGHTY. I assume they used the same sponges constructed from sand paper on the rest of the car though I can't check properly until the morning, and even then only if there's ample light. I'm posting so that, before I go through my dealer like a tonne of bricks (more specifically the brain cell that washed my car), some of you might give me some advice on what to do.

If I get a chance and light permitting I will try to get some pics to show the damage.

i suspect it was not the dealer who washed it, but some afghani car wash down the road.

3£ is alot cheaper then employing someone to wash it.

i recall many years ago where the dealer had serviced the car and then they washed it - via the auto car wash next door with those big rollers!!

My brand new car fresh from the factory was put through an auto car wash round the back of the dealers, with those big rollers!! It seems all new cars get that treatment (at my dealer at least) before delivery to the customer! :cry: This is a main VW dealers.

Luckily there are no obvious swirl marks that I have noticed.

I'm inclined to agree with you Sky, it is still the dealers responsibility and it will be them picking up the bill to fix it. I'm not going to go to them until I can get the car dried and some pictures in the sun where it is more obvious, just incase nothing shows under the lights of the dealership.

Make sure you put a big "DO NOT WASH" sign in the window if it goes back to the same dealers for service etc

i pick up my roc friday

upon making order i told the sales guy to

NOT WASH or prep the car. leave it as it is with all the factory protectors on it and no to even screw the number plates on

spoke to him today and its still the case.

In so many cases the car gets damaged more then being preped properly

I'd kick off, big time. Ask to see the wash bay and then watch them squirm.

My ex sent her Mk4 Golf R32 to a certain Surrey dealership for a service and they washed it with what can only be described as a brillo pad. Scratches all over it, some really deep where they'd scrubbed at bits of the paintwork.

Dealer couldn't give two shits about it so needless to say they'll see no more of my business, her business, any friends business or any of our corporate business. Complete idiots.

My advice? Can't avoid it with a new car but whenever your car goes for a service, tell them you don't want it cleaned.

Planning to go in tomorrow morning, first chance I've had. Since noticing the first scratches I've had my parents, girlfriend, brothers and friends check it and each one of them seems to spot more than I was aware of so yea, I'm not too chuffed and they will be doing something to fix it (i.e. paying for a professional detailer) or I will possibly make multiple empty threads and storm out...dont tell them that though. My dealer, and more specifically the gent I dealt with when buying the car, is actually really good so I don't foresee the generic 'Not our problem' conversation coming up. On the plus side I have no rapport with the manager so will be happy to flex my vocal chords if needs be.

Glad you reinforced my thoughts there Scirocket.
