Cars into VW...
Cars into VW...
Well, took my car in today to see about the boot strut recall, to get the rusty door bolts checked out, to report the rusty strut tops, oh and to report the acceleration squeak.
The reacll needed doing and they are replacing the rusty door bolts. They are putting in a report on the squeak and the rusty strut tops but said they didn't think VW would do anything about the rusty strut tops and I explained I knew they weren't doing anything about the squeak just wanted it reported so that hopefully they will decide to sort it out.
As for the rusty strut tops I explained I didn't think this was really accepatble in an 8 month old, 3100 mile, nigh on £20k new car - especially as they've always been like that.
I should hopefully find out the results on Wednesday when it has the boot and dorr bolts done, I'm not holding my breath

Re: Cars into VW...
Is the acceleration squeak on gear changes about 2,500 rpm - 3,00rpm? And from the engine?

Re: Cars into VW...
Not sure on the revs but it's a squeak under initial hard acceleration. VW know about the problem as it effects the 1.4 in all its guises from the Tiguan to the 'roc, apparently it's something to do with the supercharger clutch/belt engaging/disengaging on the initial hit of acceleration. It isn't harmful but is annoying - I know it's only a 1.4 but I don't want it to sound like I'm treading on a hamster everytime I accelerate, lolRW1 wrote:Is the acceleration squeak on gear changes about 2,500 rpm - 3,00rpm? Re: Cars into VW...
OK, just I'm reading a lot about a water pump squeak (short duration) problem in Europe with the 1.4's. VW have been redesigning the pump and the new modded unit has failed under test last month to cure the noise.

I had read about a water pump squeak too but understood that was a more constant noise whereas the acceleration squeak was suggested to cme from the supercharger clutch or belts basically slipping.RW1 wrote:OK, just I'm reading a lot about a water pump squeak (short duration) problem in Europe with the 1.4's. Eventually I found the youtube links I was looking for!
The first shows the noise well, the second isn't so great but is of a 'roc

Second posting on this link - YouTube video. Midway through the video, just after the pedestrian crossing stop, accelerating, a little higher pitched squeak on gear changes.

The forum needs you to register but it sounds from your description just like the link I just posted too!RW1 wrote:Second posting on this link - YouTube video. Midway through the video, just after the pedestrian crossing stop, accelerating, a little higher pitched squeak on gear changes.

Re: Cars into VW...
The first link I posted shows it really well and suggests it's the magnetic clutch which is engaged when the supercharger is used under hard acceleration. It's not supposed to be a problem but it is irritating!

Re: Cars into VW...
Well as above, VW think it needs a change. Not a warrenty claim in Germany though. I wonder how VW Milton Keynes will handle it when they finally sort the pump clutch out.

It deff. needs sorting - god knows what it sounds like from outside the car - must sound like you're murdering a family of hamsters everytime you accelerate!!RW1 wrote:Well as above, VW think it needs a change. Current replacement pumps don't sort it. Comes back after a while.
How **k miles have you done?

Re: Cars into VW...
Cheers Deacon, I hope this is not going to be like clockwork at 3K............
Squeak when accelerating (only 1.4 TSI 160PS)
During strong acceleration - typically after the gear change - (usually at 2,000 - 3,000 rpm), screech or a short beep sound occurs.
This affects only 1.4 TSI with twin charger (1.4 TSI with 160 hp). The noise is caused by the magnetic coupling engaging with the compressor. The noise usually occurs only after a mileage of 3000 Kilometres or more. Replacing the magnetic coupling (integrated in the water pump) is only short term. The problem is known at VW (Germany) and is being addressed.
Until resolved, the workshops are instructed to make no repairs (in Germany).
From Week 45, there will be a new water pump, which will solve the problem.
(This is now no longer true as the revised pump has also got the same problem.)

Re: Cars into VW...
Just thought I'd update this post.
Took my car into VW today and had the tailgate bolt recall done and they also changed the rusty door lock bolts.
They took photos of the rusty strut tops and sprayed them with some WD40 type stuff to give them a little protection from further corroding - they said that this report will be passed onto VW and they will decide if anything will be done in the way of changing the struts.
They also road tested the car and said that they have been told that the noise is a normal characteristic of the supercharger operation but the report will get passed onto VW UK and then VW Germany.
Seems like the rusty suspension and supercharger squeaks just a wait and see situation. Service manager suggested that when other people start experiencing the squeaks and rusty strut tops to report them to their dealer so they would be passed on and hopefully VW will be 'encouraged' to do something about them.

Car into VW saga 2...
This time last week the acc button was flashing on the way to work, read the manual & it signifies error, was going into my local dealer anyway to pick up some mats I had ordered so booked it in for them to check over this morning (hasn't brought the error up again since though).
This morning I roll up & they take it in to look at & then give me the good news... a shock absorber is leaking onto the multiplug of the acc system (plus I don't know where else) which caused the error & they wouldn't advise to drive it
The new shock absorber contains hazardous fluid so they have to extra careful with it apparently & takes 2 days to arrive (sat) so I won't be getting my car back till at least monday I haven't even had it 2 weeks yet
if you get this error code on the acc it may seem like nothing but go & get it checked guys

i'm hurt wigit
no chance Deacon they aren't even changing out the pair they only change them as singles now!
they have said it will be done by the end of monday, if its not i'm camping there as I can't cope with the courtesy car (1.4 diesel 09 plate polo) already & i've only driven 10 miles in it! my 10 year old diesel 306 was better by a mile & thats saying something.
oh & they are on strict instruction NOT to wash it & that I do know my mileage & current average mpg.
