CD Auto Changer

Post by infinidim »

Folks, our lovely Roco is sick...... :(

We have now had the car for about a month and last week when we were in Norfolk the CD Auto changer that is built into the RCD510 decided that it was not going to play any CD's. This all happened when it was chnging from one CD to another....basically it came up with "CD error".   When we tried to eject any of the CD's that were in it (5 in all) it only gave us back the one that was in slot 1... the rest are still in there and if you try to eject any of them then it give "CD error".

When we went into a dealer in Norwich, basically after they said that it was the first one of the kind that they had seen, :faint: they said it would have to go into to have it (the RCD510) replaced completely :fall: and the broken one would have to go to Germany fo them to get the CD's out of it.  ...Tuesday we go into the dealer in Portsmouth (near where we live) and have a discussuion with them about getting it fixed..... :hyper:

Given that everytime we switch on the car we can now hear the CD Auto Changer "grinding away" I don't feel very confident of what state they will be in when we get them back.. ... I think we are doing to ask for money to buy new CD's ....

Has anybody else had this issue with the built in auto changer in the RCD510? :?

Other than that we have done over 2000 miles in a month and we think it is a great car.....

sorry to hear its sick infinidim, not terribly surprised by the response of the certain dealer you popped into, they are abit hands off.

I've only had my car 2 days so no sign of any issues yet (touch wood) but from experiences of cd multichangers previously it sounds like a cd might have slipped out of alignment. no fun for you anyway!

hope your dealer in portsmouth get it sorted to your satisfaction.

We have now taken it into the local dealer, he ran some diagnostics on the radio / changer which were sent over to Germany. Germany came back with exactly what we thought they would to replace the radio / CD changer. That was done yesterday....

The old one goes to Germany for them to get he CD's out of it to return to us...interesting process. :faint: :fall:

Lets see how long it takes. ...and what state they come back in....

Rang up the local dealer yesterday about our CD's that were in the original RCD510 and they said it could be up to 6 months before we got them back and then they might not be in a good condition.... :( :(

Rang up VW HQ about this as I thought it was not good customer relations saying this sort of thing and I got told I could go out and buy replacement CD's up to the a cost of £15 each and then present the dealer that had carried out the warranty replacement with a receipt which they would refund to us......

I then went back to the dealer who hadn't heard of this :shake: but would comply with what VW HQ had said :fall: - I also got VW HQ to upon up a customer services case for me just in case it went all wrong and I was out of pocket on the CD's . . . . ;)

It is interesting what you find out when you start pushing the system.....

I had a similar problem this morning - was listening to the radio and suddenly cd error comes up on the screen - I try to eject the cd ( I had 3 in the changer) and when I pressed the add/remove disk button - on the slots where the disks were in, it said "no audio" instead of "mp3' disk

Took me a while to ge the cd's out and I had to switch the radio on and off 3 times to get all three disk out....strange

Seems to be working fine now

The last 2 cars my wife has owned (Fiesta and Nissan Note) both suffered from CD problems (player would regularly skip whilst playing, and both would fail to eject on a regular basis) so I wonder if manufacturers are skimping on audio build quality. My previous cars have had Sony units in them and I haven't had a problem (yet)

No problems with the changer yet (apart from the occasional skipping) but occasionally the head unit fails to recognise my Sandisk Cruzer 16Gb USB stick for a whole journey, even though it hasn't been disconnected. It usually takes about 5 seconds to initialise.

I have got this problem at the moment, booked in for a check next week. Hopefully they will fix it for free, although I am still in warranty. It's so wiered that I has been only 4 months since I collect my car, it has quite a lot of problem.
