Dunno if this is anything to do with it but when I went down the M5 past Avonmouth the other week, the docks there that are normally chocka with new cars were half empty. Could this be that during the good times the manufacturers had a huge stockpile of "popular" models so that someone ordering say a 1.6 SE golf with grey paint would be able to get one quickly. As the recession hit, production was cut, these "stock" cars were consumed and now that things are supposedly picking up the production lines are solid therefore longer wait to get a "slot"
Does this make sense ? I know what I am trying to say but perhaps have not articulated it that well.

I know it's a year later but mine was built week 39 last year and it was sitting on my drive on October 22nd 2008.
Just received the car tax reminder. How time flies.. it doesn't seem like nearly a year has passed already.
Fun times, I'm sheduled for build week 39. Was sort of hoping to get it before the 17th since I have a trip to make down south. Can't say it would be a bad thing to come home to find it ready though.

I've ordered my candy white gt 170 tdi though sinclairs in bridgend, i ordered on the 8th of august and im still waiting to hear about a confirmed production date, how is it that someone who ordered almost three weeks later than me already knows a production date for thier car?? time to chase up the dealer i think then!!!

some dealers choose to tell you some don't. there has certainly been a case of one dealer not telling one person (think its on here) so as not to 'worry' them because the production weeks were bouncing around so much but not knowing that they had a production week (even though it was bouncing around) was stressing them more than knowing it was bouncing!
so your dealer may be one of the ones who doesn't tend to tell people but if you ask i'm sure they will.
Just off the phone to my Dealer. I ordered my car (2.0 Petrol TSi) around the 7th July. I was told then that I could expect the car about 12 weeks later. I was then told a week later that tit's going to be built week 45.
He's just told me today that build week has been brought forward to week 41 so i should expect delivery about week 45.
Pretty chuffed with that, but unfortunately I'm going to be in US working so won't be able to go collect it!

As I've ordered it from a dealer back home in N. Ireland I'm tempted to wait until the start of the year and get it registered as 2010. Temptation to get it as soon as i can is hard to resist!

sorry should have mentioned that my parents still live in N.Ireland and it was much cheaper to order the car from there. Cars in NI get registered from the start of January each year so I will just have to hold off for a few weeks to get it registered as 2010

Received phone call to say my Scirocco has arrived in the dealership and should be ready by Tuesday next week. Thats around 7 weeks from order to delivery! Quality!
