How much to respray and polish a bumper?

Post by slicedbread »

Some a**hole caught the left corner of my rear bumper as it was parked outside my house last night!

It's left a small 1cm scratch that has gone thru the paint and you can see the black plastic bumper underneath. The whole area is scuffed and will probably need respraying (maybe a 7cm by 7cm area) and polishing. Thankfully nothing has been dented that I can tell.

Anyone know how much this would cost to be fixed?

I suspect a respray may be required to be blended over the entire bumber area. From experience, a bodyshop is likely to charge you just shy of two-hundred quid including VAT.

That is definately within the capability of a decent Chips Away type smart repairer.
Should come in at less than £100 as well.
If there is a good thing about the damage it is on the edge so will be easier to blend in. If it was in the middle of a panel then most smart repairers will run a mile as it does'nt matter how good they are the type of work they do is in small localised areas of the bodywork and you would have to go down the more expensive route of having most of the bumper repainted.
Best of luck.
IF IT'S NOT BROKEN
I'VE NOT TOUCHED IT YET !!

we could do half the bumper for 75 quid i think it is but i wouldnt advise it as ALL of the time the laquer will start to "fade" where the blend is, the fade out laquer at our work is guarenteed by glasurit for 8 years i think, but it never lasts that long, if it was my car i would want the whole bumper doing and not some shoddy blending doing halfway through the bumper, but thats just me.

I got some quote's.

Local Chipsaway guy: £92
Halfords: £155
VW bodyshop: £320 (full respray)

I've decided to give chipsaway a go. Will report back with before/after pics once it's done.

Too bad you guys are so far from me Ryan, your prices sounded pretty competitive.

Halfords do spray jobs now? Christ!

I'm having the rear bumper on my Audi done locally, full respray £180 all in.

You didnt think to try a normal bodyshop for a quote? They'll be cheaper than VW

Seriously, do not bother with chips away. Do it properly.

I was quoted 80 - 120 for an almost identical scratch on my old corsa from one of those local chaps
My car is now for sale, for just £16,000, fair price so please no silly offers :)

I don't know any local body shops.... I tried googling it but that was fairly unsuccessful. I'm in SW london if anyone does know any.

You rely on your computer far too much sliced bread, google smoogle, what pish! Remember in the old days we used to get this big yellow thing at the the door, Yellow pages ring any bells. Always find its much better to find the like of small local companies. I have to agree tho, dont go near halfrauds, wouldnt bother with the dent people either, a local established non franchised bodyshop will be cheaper generally and do a proper job too. Not being nasty about franchised bodyshops, but just cos they have a name behind them, dont make them any good. I seen some cracking rubbish repair jobs from Merc, VW, Audi and BMW in Inverness, its all down to who they have working at the end of the day.

I do rely on the old computer/internet/google a hell of a lot nowadays.I haven't had one of those big-yellow-things you mentioned for years.

Thanks Trix for that link, will give some of the local places a ring. Though alot of them look like mobile repair guys for wheels and scuffs, not dissimilar to the chips away guy that quoted me.

A Friend of mine was reversing my 2009 white scirocco and he caught it on a black steel post and it has left a large mark on the Passenger side of the bumper
How much would a bumper respray be? Its only a mark its not dented?
