What is it like then? PLEASE READ!

Post by MrACD »

Right, firstly and weirdly I have never even sat in a Scirocco nor have I ever drove one........

Even though I placed an order last Friday lol  ...... The reviews say 25% better than a GTi Golf, as I had the MK5 Golf Gti I thought there are no worries as I loved it! :D

So, what are they like then? refinement, power delivery, MPG etc.... I have ordered the GT 140 Tdi in White.... They seem to attract the attention, saw one yesterday coming from Stoke-on-trent and was just gawping!

Let me know!

Thanks,

Al. :hyper:

You're asking AFTER you ordered? I tried both the 2.0 TSi and the 140 TDI and went for the TDI. Power delivery was nice and smooth, plenty of torque and ample power for day to day driving. Ride was great and the handling was outstanding. People seem to be getting pretty good MPG with the TDI so ticks all the boxes really.

Good choice on the colour too!
GT 140 TDI
Ordered - 19th July 2009
Built - 21st September 2009
Pickup - 21st October 2009

right so your going from a golf gti with a glorious petrol engine to a diesel with a meager 140 horses...
your going to be sorely disappoined mate!
i have the 14.tsi and my mum has a seat leon 2.0 140 diesel... when i have to drive the leon, the engine has soooo LITTLE go.
the torque doesn't even save it to be honest. the power band last for about 1 second and the turbo lag before it is painful.
change your damn order immediatly and be more responsible next time!!! lol

Ha ha, yeah i know I should of been more responsible! But I just went on impulse, for the money you can't get a better car imo....

Well, my current car is a Mercedes C220 CDi Sports Coupe with 143bhp..... A golf 2.0 tdi left me for dust a while back. So think the diesel engines are good, plus at the moment I need the MPG as I do a fair few miles.

The Golf GTi was rapid and i do miss the delivery of the 200 bhp.. But needs must and I think i've made the right choice....

Not going for a test drive though, lol, I should of thought about that one!

Cheers guys!

I don't think you'll be disappointed - you can always get it remapped to give you nearer 170bhp if you feel that it's lacking power.

Mate,

I went from a golf GTI to the rocco, both modified to quite a degree. What I will say is that the standard 2.0 TSi felt a little underwhelming until it was remapped whereas the golf felt all of its 200 horses. However, on my run off a roundabout down a straight dual carriageway, the roc matched the golf by doing 132 at the same point so although feeling slower it wasn't. Remapped however its a different beast but then so was the golf. I think you will be in love with the looks and that new car Karma but ultimately the golf MKv GTi handled so well that if you push the roc you will find its limits before your own whereas in the GTi it was usually the case of you bottling it before the car let go if that makes any sense.

As for the economy, I have to drive to Cheltenham everyday, 32 miles down the A40 which is chocka with artics so its generally 45-50 all the way. Most days this sees me with 41-42 MPG on the average, coming home when the roads are generally clearer sees 34-36 or if I am going for it then 26-28. My last job into bracknell saw me averaging 33-34 MPG with lots of 80-90 on the motorway so the economics for the diesel do not massively outweigh the fun of the petrol. Thats running 260BHP as well, aint no 2.0 sooty gonna keep up when this things being pushed.

One thing you will love however is all the looks, still get people gawping now and thats after they have been on the roads for 12 months. You don't get that in the golf !!!!!! (even if a mapped ED30 is quicker wigit  )
Taken delivery : Silver, DSG, NAV, Black Leather, Park Sensors, Winter pack.

Mods: Full Milltek, KW lowering springs,Wheel Spacers, Remapped to 258BHP, 405Nm

Cheers for that mate, part of me wishes i'd have gone for the 2.0tfsi really, I loved the golf so much, when i pushed it not much could keep with me, even used to see off Type r's as standard....

I'll stick with the diesel order though, think it's the calming choice i need! Even tho i'll have it mapped to 170bhp, the mid-range torque will be nice!

Bet your Scirocco goes with 260bhp on the go! Thats the same power as the S3, so not bad, it must be a sub 6 secs car to 60?

So yeah, it will have to be the looks, not the power that i love, plus I really like the changes they have made with the 2010 model

I think it'll feel slightly claustrophobic compared to your merc for the first 2-3 weeks but then you'll get used to it. Refinement is excellent imo and you should get a frugal but worthwhile ride from the TDi :)

I disagreee! :p
It only feels claustrophobic if you're unfortunate enough to be sat in the back. Feels every bit as big as any other mid sized car in the front. Though there again I've got the sunroof, so maybe that gives an illusion of size.

Certainly didn't feel any smaller in the front than my Golf or 1 series. Definitely felt bigger than a Puma...

Yeah I dont mind a cabin that is on the smaller side as long as it's comfy.....

So I reckon it'll be ok....

I'm going to go down to a dealer that actually has one and have a look! lol..
